Toshiba HAORI occupies its own category in the air-conditioning range — it is not a comfort unit and not a performance-first premium model. Its distinction is physical: a removable front panel covered in linen-structured textile, available in six colours. Toshiba designed it for interiors where every fitting needs to work as a decorative element, not only a technical one. Within the Toshiba catalogue HAORI sits above SEIYA 2 and alongside SHORAI EDGE, but it targets a different buyer — one for whom the appearance of the wall matters as much as the seasonal energy efficiency coefficient.

Toshiba is a Japanese manufacturer with over seventy years in air conditioning. European operations run through Toshiba Carrier Corporation — a joint venture with Carrier Global — giving the brand access to Japanese component technology backed by global service infrastructure. In Poland Toshiba maintains a network of authorised service partners; authorisation covers both warranty handling and access to genuine spare parts. The 3.5 kW variant (RAS-B13N4KVRG-E) is sized for a typical living room of 25–35 m², a bedroom in a detached house or a private office. Cooling and heating technology

At the heart of the refrigeration circuit sits a DC rotary compressor with Toshiba's integrated hybrid inverter. Output modulates smoothly from 1.00 to 4.10 kW in cooling mode and from 1.00 to 5.30 kW in heating mode. This continuous range eliminates the abrupt load spikes of on/off systems and holds the target temperature accurately — the compressor adjusts rather than switching off and back on.

An external PMV (Pulse Modulating Valve) controls refrigerant pressure and flow independently of outdoor load changes. Toshiba applies this valve in commercial units and has brought it into the residential segment — the result is stable output through variable weather and a level of control precision that simpler inverter designs cannot match. R32 refrigerant has a GWP of 675 and zero ozone depletion potential (ODP=0), meeting current European F-gas regulations.

Nominal cooling capacity is 3.5 kW, nominal heating capacity 4.2 kW. SEER 8.70 places HAORI in energy class A+++ for cooling; SCOP 5.10 gives class A+++ for heating — the upper tier of residential air conditioners currently available. For comparison, Toshiba SEIYA 2 in the same capacity class achieves SEER 6.10 (A++); HAORI's higher coefficient translates to fewer kilowatt-hours consumed per year of operation at the same comfort level.

Comfort and air quality

Airflow distribution in HAORI is governed by HADA-Care technology, which keeps the air jet flat along the ceiling throughout the cooling cycle. The air does not blow directly at people sitting in the room — it runs along the ceiling, descends along the walls and mixes with room air before reaching the occupied zone. The effect is most noticeable in cooling mode, where standard units often create uncomfortable drafts at seated height. The horizontal louvre adjusts automatically or can be set manually from the remote.

Two-stage filtration combines Toshiba's Ultra Pure mechanical filter — which captures up to 94% of PM2.5 particles — with a Plasma Ionizer that generates low-temperature plasma to neutralise bacteria, viruses and other airborne contaminants as air passes through the unit. PM2.5 particles measure below 2.5 micrometres in diameter; they pass through standard mesh filters and reach the lower respiratory tract. The Ultra Pure filter captures the majority of them on the first air pass.

Magic Coil technology applies a specialist protective coating to the heat exchanger surface. The coating reduces organic deposit accumulation on the evaporator, maintaining heat-exchange efficiency and limiting the conditions that cause odour development. Magic Coil does not replace annual servicing, but it extends the intervals between professional cleaning and keeps the heat exchanger in better baseline condition throughout the operating year.

Controls and Wi-Fi

HAORI ships with a premium wireless remote featuring a brushed black texture and a magnetic wall mount. The mount keeps the remote on the wall within easy reach rather than lost in furniture — a practical detail that matches the considered design of the unit. The remote covers all operating modes: cooling, heating, dehumidification, ventilation and auto. An optional wired controller with a weekly timer is available for office and hotel installations where a fixed wall panel is preferred.

The built-in Wi-Fi module connects to the Toshiba Home AC Control app (Android and iOS). The app provides remote switching, mode selection, target temperature adjustment and real-time energy consumption monitoring — a feature particularly useful for an A+++ unit where actual running costs can be tracked per cycle. The weekly schedule lets users programme automatic switch-on before returning home without daily manual input.

Home AC Control supports integration with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, enabling voice control of the unit. Toshiba has certified HAORI in both compatibility programmes. For smart-home users the unit can participate in automation scenes — switching on as part of a morning routine or turning off when the front door is locked from a phone. Voice temperature adjustment is practical when the remote is across the room.

Design and build

The HAORI front panel is made from textile with a linen-like weave — a material that reads as natural fabric from across the room, not plastic. The panel covers the entire face of the indoor unit and releases without tools: unfasten the clips and lift it off, much like removing a cushion cover. Fitting a replacement panel takes about fifteen seconds. Toshiba offers six variants: bluish-grey, light grey, dark brown, dark grey, grey-beige and emerald blue. The panel dimensions are publicly available, so a custom panel can be made by a tailor or upholsterer — the clip mechanism accepts any textile of the appropriate weight and stretch.

The indoor unit measures 987 mm wide, 300 mm tall and 210 mm deep, weighing 11 kg. The horizontal format — nearly a metre wide — gives HAORI the visual weight of a design element rather than an appliance. Pipe and cable connections exit at the rear and can be concealed in the wall or routed in a colour-matched PVC conduit. The low profile depth of 210 mm keeps the unit close to the wall even in rooms with limited clearance.

The outdoor unit (RAS-13J2AVSG-E1) measures 780 mm wide, 550 mm tall and 290 mm deep, weighing 30 kg. The powder-coated galvanised steel casing withstands years of Polish weather exposure without corrosion. The DC rotary compressor sits inside a sound-dampened chamber within the casing, which reduces structural vibration transmitted to the building wall. Operating range in cooling extends from -15°C to +46°C outdoor temperature; in heating from -15°C to +24°C — the unit runs year-round without seasonal restrictions.

Installation and service

The 9,320.85 PLN price with installation covers a standard system fit: the outdoor unit mounted on the building wall or an anti-vibration base up to 5 metres of pipe run from the indoor unit, copper pipes in premium insulation (Armacell or Ebrille), gravity condensate drainage to the sanitary stack or through the wall to the exterior, electrical connection to the existing circuit, nitrogen pressure test and vacuum evacuation. After commissioning the customer receives a technical report with pressure-test parameters and refrigerant charge data.

Installing HAORI demands extra care with pipe and cable routing — given the unit's designer character, customers typically expect concealed pipework or aesthetically finished conduits.
