In Warsaw the winter temperature can fall far below zero, and an air conditioner is mostly associated with summer. The Hyundai Atlantis 3.5 kW (indoor unit HRP-M12ASI, outdoor unit HRP-M12ASO) has a concrete answer to that: the Arctic KIT heater set, which according to the manufacturer allows steady operation in heating mode at outdoor temperatures down to -25 °C. For a Warsaw resident that is useful information, because the unit can be of use outside the hot season too.

The manufacturer's data give a cooling capacity of 3.5 kW (from 1.4 to 4.0 kW), a heating capacity of 3.8 kW (from 1.1 to 4.1 kW), SEER 8.5 with an A+++ class in cooling and SCOP 4.6 with an A++ class in heating. The indoor unit runs at 20–39 dB(A), is 813 mm wide, 289 mm high and 201 mm deep, and weighs 8 kg. The refrigerant is R32, and the maximum installation length reaches 25 m.

The second, less obvious side of the model is the air. Hyundai added silver-ion, catalytic and activated-carbon filters and a plasma generator, with high-density anti-mould filters beneath them. Below we describe what this means in everyday use. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.

Overview and positioning

The Atlantis is a new Hyundai series from 2026, which the manufacturer describes as exclusive, minimalist in form and designed for full integration with the space. In our catalogue it is a premium proposal for someone who treats an air conditioner as a year-round appliance and not merely as kit for a few hot weeks. A large part of the description concentrates on operation at low temperatures and on air quality, and that is exactly what sets this model apart from simpler variants.

The set consists of the HRP-M12ASI indoor unit and the HRP-M12ASO outdoor unit. Nominally that is 3.5 kW of cooling and 3.8 kW of heating. Hyundai also notes that the indoor unit can work both in a one-to-one mono-split arrangement and with outdoor units of the MULTI SPLIT system, which gives flexibility if you plan to extend the installation in future.

We choose capacity to suit the room, not the name. That is why on the free visit we check the floor area, the height, the sun exposure and the number of windows. Only then do we say whether 3.5 kW is enough in a given room.

The data for this description come from Hyundai's catalogue card for the Atlantis series, in which larger capacities appear beside the 3.5 kW variant. We take from it only the values that apply to our set and do not carry features of other variants over to it. That way you can compare our figures with the card without worrying that the description promises more than the equipment delivers.

Cooling and heating technology

The most interesting element is the Arctic KIT. Heaters in the drain pan and the compressor are meant to keep heating steady at low outdoor temperatures down to -25 °C. The heating operating range is from -25 to 24 °C, and for cooling from -15 to 50 °C. Note that these are limit values: output in hard frost is lower than at above-zero temperatures, and that is how it should be judged.

Efficiency is high. In cooling the SEER is 8.5, which gives an A+++ class, and in heating the SCOP is 4.6 with an A++ class. A cooling range from 1.4 to 4.0 kW and a heating range from 1.1 to 4.1 kW means the unit can run gently at light load and raise its output when needed. The A+++ class in cooling is a seasonal index from the manufacturer's card, so it lets you compare units on one scale, but it does not replace judging how the equipment will behave in your room.

A separate function is holding +8 °C. In winter the unit can keep watch itself so that the room does not fall below this temperature, thanks to automatic control of operation. It comes in handy in a flat that stands empty for a few days, or in a room that should not be chilled to zero but does not need constant warmth.

Why does the drain-pan heater matter? In heating mode the outdoor unit collects condensate water, which freezes in frost and can block the drain. The heater is meant to prevent that, and heating the compressor is meant to help it work at low temperatures. That is why, when planning an installation, we pay attention to how condensate is drained, as it is one of the elements that decide whether the unit runs smoothly in winter.

Comfort and air quality

Hyundai describes several layers of filtration. The main high-density filters have an anti-mould and anti-fungal action, and the manufacturer states that a PM 2.5 filtration level is reached during operation. Added to these are three extra filters: silver-ion, catalytic and activated carbon. The silver-ion filter is meant to fight bacteria, viruses and spores, the catalytic one neutralises microorganisms and unpleasant smells, and the activated-carbon filter absorbs particles and harmful gases, with a stated 99% effectiveness in removing unpleasant smells.

The catalytic filter needs a little care: the manufacturer recommends putting it in a sunny place for 6–8 hours every 3–4 months. It is worth writing that in your calendar. The built-in plasma generator releases negative ions, which are meant to remove smells, dust, smoke and fine particles from the air and to reduce static electricity in the room.

Quiet: the indoor unit runs at 20–39 dB(A), and the Quiet function lowers the volume to 20 dB(A). The manufacturer points to a bedroom and a child's room as natural places. The outdoor unit reaches 55 dB(A), which, when choosing where to mount it, for example on a balcony, is worth considering with regard to neighbours. Quiet mode is worth using at night, and during the day, when the noise does not matter, you can drop it.

If you compare this description with other models, you will see that the emphasis here is on filters and ionisation, not on airflow functions. It is an honest difference of character: the manufacturer's description does not speak of advanced steering of the airflow, but it does speak of cleaner, less smelly air and steady heating.

Controls and Wi-Fi

Hyundai describes Wi-Fi remote control as a standard possibility: the air conditioner can be fitted with a Wi-Fi module, and management is through the NetHome PLUS app on Android or iOS phones. From the app you change the operating temperature, switch the unit on and off, change modes and set a weekly schedule.

The manufacturer's wording speaks of the possibility of connecting a module, not of the module being in the box. That is why, when we quote, we check how it works out for the specific set and only then configure the app. We do not promise in advance that the connection will be ready at once. We make the first connection between your phone and the air conditioner together with you at commissioning, so that you do not have to do it alone.

For the record: the manufacturer's description lists neither a remote with a particular function nor a presence sensor, so we do not discuss those elements. If one function is a condition of purchase for you, ask about it before ordering and we will check it in the manufacturer's documentation.

A practical example: you set the weekly schedule once, and the app lets you correct it without getting up from the sofa. The +8 °C holding function combined with remote access makes sense in a flat you return to after a weekend, because you can check how the unit is running before you walk in.

Design and build

The indoor unit casing is white with a satin finish. The manufacturer writes that it matches modern wall paints and creates a coherent, visually light whole. The dimensions are 813 mm wide, 289 mm high and 201 mm deep, with a weight of 8 kg. A depth of just over 20 cm means the unit does not protrude far from the wall. In practice a white, satin body does not compete with the furniture and does not tire the eye, which matters when the air conditioner hangs in a bedroom opposite the bed.

Beneath the surface lies what the manufacturer calls intelligent functions working discreetly: filters, plasma ionisation, heaters and temperature-holding control. From outside it is a minimalist body meant to blend with the interior. The manufacturer speaks of full integration with the space, and we help achieve that in practice: we run pipes and condensate so that they are as little visible as possible.

The outdoor unit is heavier and bigger, but the manufacturer does not give its exact dimensions in this summary, so we do not quote them here. We settle its place, on a facade or balcony, during the visit and take into account the rules of the housing association or cooperative in the audit.

When choosing a place on the wall, think about the path of the air: a unit 813 mm wide needs free space below the ceiling and at the sides so that the airflow can circulate freely. If a room has a low ceiling, we settle the mounting height at the audit, taking furniture and doors into account.

Installation and service

Installation by LeoKlima covers mounting the indoor and outdoor units, running up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate routing, making the wall passage and laying the installation neatly. Then we evacuate the system and test it for tightness, charge it with refrigerant and start the air conditioner. We finish by checking the operating parameters, configuring the controls, explaining how to use the unit and handing over the warranty documents.

The maximum installation length according to the manufacturer is 25 m. We agree the scope of work during a free audit. Surcharges, which we discuss before work starts, may apply for a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, chasing walls, a condensate pump and work from a lift platform. During installation we take care that the route is no longer than necessary, because every extra metre is a surcharge and a place where the installation shows on the wall.

With this model there is one small task for the user: regularly putting the catalytic filter out in the sun. The rest is standard: washing the filters, checking the condensate drain and an annual inspection. We quote the installed price after a free assessment. If you use the app, at the inspection we also check that the connection still works.

In winter the position of the outdoor unit matters: it should have free air access, should not stand within reach of sliding snow and should not be buried in leaves. We discuss this with you at the audit, especially if you live on the ground floor or use a balcony. Where condensate could freeze, we choose how to drain it with frost in mind.

Who this model is for — summary

The Hyundai Atlantis is for people who want an air conditioner that works in winter too and at the same time looks after the air at home. If you live somewhere where frosts are long, a heating range down to -25 °C is of real significance to you, and a SCOP of 4.6 shows that in heating the unit is efficient. An air conditioner of this efficiency class works best when it is well matched to the room, so we choose capacity after measuring, not by name.

Multi-layer filtration will suit people sensitive to smells, smoke and dust. Remember, however, that claims such as the carbon filter's 99% effectiveness against smells come from the manufacturer, not from measurements in your flat. Filters still need care, including putting the catalytic one in the sun every 3–4 months. Ask us how often you will need to do it in your case, because it depends on dustiness and on how long the unit runs each day.

We quote the installed price after a free assessment. During the visit we measure the room, show where both units can go and tell you which tasks are in scope and which may need a surcharge.

The manufacturer's description does not mention elaborate airflow steering or special comfort modes, so if that is what you are looking for, this model may not be the first choice. Choose the Atlantis when operating range in winter, filtration and the A+++ efficiency class in cooling matter more.
