The LG DUALCOOL AI Premium is a wall-mounted air conditioner with a nominal cooling capacity of 3.5 kW and a nominal heating capacity of 4.0 kW. The manufacturer lists the indoor unit as H12S1PA NS1 and the outdoor unit as H12S1PA U18. Most of the interesting work happens in how the air is distributed: a radar in the indoor unit checks where in the room a person is sitting or lying, and two airflow vanes aim the stream at that person or above them. LG calls this AI Air and states that the radar sensor detects a person's position up to 5 m away. For a flat in Warsaw this means a unit that cools in a heatwave and also avoids blowing straight onto your neck while you work at a desk.

The operating range is wide. Cooling capacity varies smoothly from 890 to 4350 W and heating capacity from 650 to 6000 W, so the DUAL Inverter compressor follows the load instead of switching on and off. The indoor unit's sound pressure level sits between 19 and 47 dB(A), and both energy classes, cooling and heating, are A+++. The indoor unit measures 895 × 307 × 235 mm and weighs 12.6 kg. These figures come from the manufacturer and refer to the 3.5 kW variant, so we base our assessment on them rather than on general series descriptions.

On top of that comes a layer of hygiene and convenience. Auto Clean+ dries the heat exchanger after use, Freeze Cleaning makes it easier to clean the inside of the unit, and the LG ThinQ app lets you control the unit and follow how it runs. We quote the installed price after a free assessment. Below we describe what sets this model apart in daily use and who will actually benefit from it. At the end of the page you will also find short answers about noise, heating and dimensions.

Overview and positioning

The DUALCOOL AI Premium is LG's offer for someone who treats an air conditioner as a tool for managing the air in a room, not just a source of cold. The catalogue variant of 3.5 kW suits a bedroom, a living room open to a dining area or a larger home office, and its core is the AI Air function, which combines radar data with the room temperature. In the LeoKlima catalogue it sits among the premium models, where intelligent airflow control matters more than raw capacity.

On the manufacturer's page the whole DUALCOOL series is shown as a winner of the iF Design Award 2025 and of the Red Dot award 2024 in the heating and air-conditioning technology category, and as a finalist of the IDEA award 2024. That is information about the product line, not our verdict on a particular unit, so we treat it as background. What matters more to you is that airflow and operation are more carefully developed here than in basic models.

Before choosing this unit, ask yourself whether you need such rich control. If you simply want to cool a room, a simpler appliance will do. If, however, a desk, a sofa and a bed share one space and each spot has different airflow requirements, the functions of this model start to make practical sense.

Cooling and heating technology

The DUAL Inverter compressor works with continuously varying output. In cooling mode the nominal 3.5 kW can drop to 890 W under a light load and rise to 4350 W when the room heats up strongly. In heating mode the nominal 4.0 kW stretches from 650 to 6000 W. Such a spread means fewer on-off cycles and therefore calmer operation and a steadier temperature. In practice, at the same nominal capacity the unit can adapt its airflow to whether someone sits close to it or far away.

Airflow is handled by the DUAL Vane double blades. According to the manufacturer they spread the stream up or down, and in LG's tests they cool up to 23% faster than the previous platform with a single vane, with an airflow reach of more than 22 m. These are results from the manufacturer's test chamber, so in a flat the difference will depend on the layout of the room. AI heating, in turn, shortens the time needed to reach the set temperature by 6% compared with the previous platform.

The refrigerant is R32, and the energy classes in cooling and heating are both A+++. The indoor unit is relatively wide at 895 mm but shallow: its depth is 235 mm and its height 307 mm. When choosing a spot on the wall, free space above the unit and in front of the air outlet matters more than depth.

Comfort and air quality

AI Air is the main argument for this model. The radar assesses where a person is, and the air conditioner chooses the fan speed and airflow direction accordingly. Once the set temperature is reached, Soft Air takes over: a gentle, indirect stream with the lower outlet closed, meant to prevent the feeling of being chilled. If you use Soft Air on its own, the lowest room temperature you can set is 24°C. The functions only work in cooling, fan and AI Air modes, so they do not change how heating operates in winter.

The presence sensors also do something less spectacular but useful: when nobody moves for 20 minutes, the unit switches to an energy-saving mode. The absence time can be changed in the app within a range of 20 to 120 minutes. The kW Manager lets you set a limit on energy use, and open-window detection reduces losses when you ventilate the room. Sleep Timer+ learns your night-time temperature and airflow preferences, and humidity control helps keep a comfortable moisture level. All of this can be tuned to your own daily routine, so the unit does not run at full tilt when nobody is home.

The air is cleaned by the Plasmaster Ionizer++, which according to the manufacturer removes 99.9% of bacteria attached to surfaces, as confirmed by TÜV and Intertek. A pre-filter catches larger dust particles, and an anti-allergy filter removes, among other things, house dust mites. No filter replaces regular cleaning, so remember to wash it as the manual instructs. For someone working from home or living with an allergy sufferer these functions matter.

Controls and Wi-Fi

The unit is operated with a remote control or from the LG ThinQ app. The manufacturer's description indicates that in the app you can switch the presence sensor on and off, start Soft Air with a chosen airflow temperature, follow energy use and manage routine maintenance. Before first using AI Air, LG recommends taking a photo of the room in the app or marking the position of the air conditioner and the place where you usually stay. This way you do not have to guess how to set the vanes: the unit does it itself, and you only correct the result if it does not suit you.

The manufacturer also describes cooperation with an AI speaker: you just say "turn on" or "turn off" and the air conditioner responds. LG's page does not say how the connectivity module is supplied, so we do not promise it. We will check this with you during the assessment so that you know exactly what comes in the package.

For someone who wants to schedule the unit and not get up from the sofa, this is a convenient solution. If you prefer the remote control alone, all basic cooling and heating functions still work. The presence sensor can also be switched off from the remote or in the app, so you do not have to use it.

Design and build

The indoor unit's casing is white. The appliance is wide but low, so above a sofa or bed it does not dominate. With the indoor unit weighing 12.6 kg, we assess the load-bearing capacity and type of wall during the free assessment, before the unit is hung. The outdoor unit is placed so that noise and vibration do not bother you or your neighbours, and we run the route as short as practical, because part of the later cost depends on it.

From a service point of view the cleaning functions are interesting, and the manufacturer groups them into the All Cleaning package. After you switch off, Auto Clean+ blows air for up to 20 minutes, adjusting the volume so that the heat exchanger dries faster or more quietly. Freeze Cleaning freezes the inside, and the thawed ice washes away deposits and, as LG describes it, reduces the number of bacteria. For someone who works from home or has an allergy sufferer in the flat, these functions matter because they limit moisture and deposits in a place you cannot see.

These mechanisms do not replace servicing. Once a year it is worth ordering a check of tightness and heat exchanger cleanliness, and the filters should be washed regularly, especially in the season. It is also worth checking every few weeks that the outlet grille is not dusty, which is the simplest way to keep airflow quality good all year round. This applies to all air conditioners, regardless of how many automatic functions they have.

Installation and service

Installation covers mounting the indoor and outdoor units, running up to several metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate lines, and passing through the wall with a tidy arrangement of the installation. We pull a vacuum and check the tightness of the system, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit. We do not do this blindly: first we look at the wall, the route and the place for the outdoor unit, and only then do we give the installed price.

After start-up we check the operating parameters and configure the controls, including setting together the position of the air conditioner and the places where you stay if you want to use AI Air. At the end we show you how to operate the unit, how to choose a mode, set a schedule in the app and switch off functions you do not plan to use, and we hand over the warranty documents. The manufacturer does not give a maximum installation length in this model's data, so the scope of work is set at the free assessment.

We discuss possible extra charges before the work starts. They can be caused by a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, chasing walls, a condensate pump or work from a lift platform. This way you know what you are paying for before the crew begins.

Who this model is for — summary

The LG DUALCOOL AI Premium 3.5 kW is for people who want influence over how air moves around a room. It will work especially well where the sitting and sleeping areas are far apart, because the radar and the double vane let it distinguish a direct stream from a gentle, indirect one. Operation from 19 dB(A) matters in a bedroom. The 3.5 kW variant also suits a flat where autumn and spring heating is meant to supplement central heating, since the nominal heating capacity reaches 4.0 kW.

Think twice if you want the simplest possible unit, if you do not intend to use the app, or if the room is so small that the airflow direction hardly needs deciding. In that situation the extra functions will simply go unused. It can also be a good choice for families in which one person sleeps lightly and another likes it cool, because changing the airflow direction helps reconcile those needs.

We are glad to check on site whether the wall and the layout of the room let you use what this air conditioner can do. We quote the installed price after a free assessment, and the scope of work and any extra charges are settled before installation begins. If you are in doubt, we will prepare a comparison with other models from our catalogue, matched to your room size and the way you use the unit.
