TCL FreshIN 3.0 differs from a typical wall-mounted air conditioner in one fundamental way: besides cooling and heating the air in the room, it can bring fresh air indoors. The manufacturer describes this as a patented design with a lifting intake in the upper part of the indoor unit. Fresh air passes through the four-layer QuadruPuri filter and then through the heat exchanger, which brings it to room temperature with ±0.3°C precision. The 12K variant with the S12C8S0 indoor unit delivers a nominal 3.5 kW of cooling and 3.6 kW of heating.

The efficiency figures are high and consistent with the EU scale: SEER 8.5 means class A+++ for cooling and SCOP 4.6 means class A++ for heating. The manufacturer specifies heating operation at outdoor temperatures from -25°C to 30°C and cooling from -15°C to 53°C. The outdoor unit is protected by a drain pan heater that stops condensate from freezing. Indoor unit sound pressure ranges from 22 dB at the lowest fan speed to 44 dB at the highest.

On top of that comes equipment rarely found in wall-mounted air conditioners: a TVOC sensor with a colour-coded air quality indicator, a filter life reminder, a voice control module that works without the internet, and Wi-Fi with the TCL Home app. The indoor unit is large, 920 × 313 × 208 mm and 11 kg, which needs to be considered when choosing the wall. Overview and positioning

FreshIN 3.0 is a top-tier model in TCL's air conditioner range. The manufacturer builds it around three ideas: removing unpleasant odours, optimising humidity and clean air supported by AI algorithms. In practice the key feature is the fresh air supply, because that is what sets this model apart from ordinary wall units, which simply recirculate the air already in the room.

Such a set makes most sense in airtight new flats where windows often stay shut: in winter to keep the warmth in, in summer because of the heat, and all year round because of street noise. In Warsaw this is a typical situation in blocks along busy roads. We do not claim the air conditioner replaces a building's mechanical ventilation, because the manufacturer does not say so, but for a bedroom or home office with the window closed it is a solution worth considering.

The 3.5 kW variant usually suits a bedroom or a medium-sized living room. The final choice of output depends on sun exposure, insulation and room volume, so we always confirm it on site. The outdoor unit code is not given on the manufacturer's page, so we confirm the composition of the set when ordering. The description on this page concerns only version 3.0 with the S12C8S0 code and relies on the data the manufacturer published for this variant, without filling gaps with values from other models in the series.

Cooling and heating technology

The inverter compressor works across a very wide range: in cooling from 150 W to 4.2 kW at a nominal 3.5 kW, in heating from 150 W to 5.2 kW at a nominal 3.6 kW. Such a low minimum output lets the unit run for long periods without switching off when the room needs only a little warmth or cooling. The high maximum heating output, in turn, is useful on frosty mornings when the room needs to warm up quickly.

SEER 8.5 (A+++) and SCOP 4.6 (A++) place FreshIN 3.0 among the more efficient models in our catalogue. The manufacturer also describes an AI-based energy-saving algorithm: based on indoor temperature fluctuations, the compressor adjusts its frequency in advance so that its capacity goes into temperature control rather than unnecessary dehumidification and overcooling. This is complemented by electricity consumption monitoring. The cross-flow fan has a diameter of 108 mm, which according to the manufacturer gives greater airflow.

The heating range extends down to an outdoor temperature of -25°C, and the drain pan heater protects the outdoor unit from condensate freezing. That is good news for anyone who wants to use heating in January as well. Bear in mind, though, that in hard frost the heating output of any heat pump falls, so in a flat with central heating the air conditioner is best treated as a supplement. The refrigerant is R32, and we discuss sizing for the room during the assessment.

Comfort and air quality

Fresh air entering the room through the FreshIN intake passes through the QuadruPuri filter. It has four layers: a pre-filter for larger particles and hair, an antibacterial layer with silver ions, a high-density EPA filter that captures PM2.5 and allergens, and another high-density filter for fine dust. After filtration the air passes through the heat exchanger and enters the room at a temperature close to the indoor one, controlled to ±0.3°C, so you do not feel a cold or hot draught from outside.

Air quality is visible on the display. The integrated TVOC sensor, which detects volatile organic compounds, shows air quality in real time using a colour code. When the remaining filter life indicator drops below 20%, the unit reminds you to service it. This is practical, because filtration effectiveness depends above all on the condition of the filter elements.

The unit's own hygiene is supported by evaporator self-cleaning: frosting, defrosting, drying and sterilisation at 58°C. The manufacturer also describes a Reverse Clean mode for the outdoor unit that removes dust from it. Indoor unit sound pressure ranges from 22 to 44 dB depending on fan speed; for the outdoor unit the page gives conflicting values, so we do not quote them. The light-sensitive Sleep mode dims the display automatically when the room gets dark.

Controls and Wi-Fi

FreshIN 3.0 has Wi-Fi and is operated through the TCL Home app on a smartphone or tablet. The manufacturer describes round-the-clock access to its functions, including from outside the home. Through TCL Home or Google Assistant, the air conditioner can work with a smart TV, a smartphone or an Alexa speaker, which lets you give voice commands through those devices.

More interesting is the built-in offline voice module. According to the manufacturer, it recognises over a thousand words and commands without an internet connection, so basic commands work even if the router fails and without reaching for the remote. A wireless remote is of course available day to day too, and it remains the simplest option for household members who are not keen on apps.

At commissioning we connect the unit to the home Wi-Fi network and show where in the app to find the energy consumption view, filter status and operating modes. We also check that offline voice commands are recognised where the customer spends most time. The manufacturer's page does not specify which languages the voice module supports, so we verify this with the customer before purchase if voice control matters to them. The same goes for integrations: they depend on the accounts and devices the customer already has at home, so we set them up together rather than assuming they will work in every configuration.

Design and build

The manufacturer describes the FreshIN 3.0 design with the phrases Silver Galaxy, moon display and miniature hurricane panel. In practice this means a white casing with a subtle, shimmering motif on the panel and a round, illuminated display resembling the moon. This detail draws the eye, so it is worth considering whether the unit should hang in a central spot in the room or more discreetly above a window.

The indoor unit measures 920 × 313 × 208 mm (width, height, depth) and has a net weight of 11 kg. That is clearly more than basic wall units. Above a door or in a narrow recess there may not be enough room, so we measure the wall during the assessment and check the required clearances from the ceiling and side walls in the manual. With a width of 920 mm it is also worth thinking about how the unit will look relative to the window, curtain rail and furniture, because it stays on the wall for years.

Inside the casing the manufacturer lists noise-reducing elements: a second volute tongue, a long blade channel with high static pressure, a double micro-perforated layer and a noise-reducing air inlet. On the outdoor side it describes an air-cooled control board and the drain pan heater. The piping can be up to 25 m long. With that length the outdoor unit can be placed somewhere convenient for servicing and less bothersome for neighbours, although we discuss every extra metre of line with the customer before installation, because it affects the scope of work.

Installation and service

Installation is preceded by a free assessment at which we choose positions for both units and agree the scope of work. As standard we mount the indoor and outdoor units, run up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate lines, make the wall penetration and route the installation neatly. We then pull a vacuum and check for leaks, charge the system with refrigerant and start the unit.

After start-up we check the operating parameters, set up the remote, app and Wi-Fi, explain how the fresh air mode works and hand over the warranty documents. The maximum piping length is 25 m. The manufacturer's page does not say whether the FreshIN function requires an additional duct through the wall, so we check this in the installation manual before quoting. Possible surcharges, discussed before work starts, are a longer line set, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, wall chasing, a condensate pump and work from a lift. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.

With a model that has extensive filtration, servicing matters more than usual. The pre-filter needs regular cleaning, and the QuadruPuri elements should be replaced when the unit reminds you. Once a year it is worth booking a service with a leak check and cleaning of the heat exchanger and condensate drain. Evaporator self-cleaning and Reverse Clean help between visits but do not replace them. If the unit heats in winter, in autumn we also check the outdoor unit's condensate drain and the drain pan heater, because any drainage problems show up fastest in frosty weeks.

Who this model is for — summary

TCL FreshIN 3.0 3.5 kW is for people who want more than cooling from an air conditioner: a supply of filtered fresh air, insight into air quality through the TVOC sensor and high efficiency. SEER 8.5, SCOP 4.6 and heating at -25°C outdoors make it a sensible candidate for heavy use outside the summer season too. Wi-Fi and offline voice control are convenient extras.

It is worth remembering the limitations, though. The indoor unit is large and heavy for a wall unit, the filters need regular attention, and the acoustic data for the outdoor unit is not given unambiguously. If you simply need low-cost cooling for one room, a simpler model may be the better choice. You also need to budget for filter upkeep: the elements must be replaced from time to time, and it is worth checking their availability before buying.

Those who gain most are residents of airtight flats on busy streets, families with allergy sufferers for whom the EPA filter and silver-ion layer matter, and people working from home with the window closed. In those conditions the supply of fresh, filtered air and the TVOC readout on the display have real everyday value, not just brochure value. Considering FreshIN 3.0 for a flat in or around Warsaw?
