The Bosch Climate 4000i in its 3.5 kW set (indoor unit CL4000iU W 35 E, outdoor unit CL4000i 35 E) is a wall-mounted reversible single split air conditioner. Bosch aims it at flats and detached houses and describes it as a unit for every season: it cools in hot weather and, outside the main heating period, can work as an additional source of heat. Compared with the more expensive Bosch lines this is a no-frills proposition. You get a proven set of comfort and air hygiene functions, but some extras, such as a connection to your phone, have to be bought separately.
The key numbers of this variant are easy to remember. Nominal cooling capacity is 3.5 kW and heating capacity is 3.8 kW. SEER is 8.0, SCOP is 4.6, and the energy class A++ applies to both cooling and heating. The indoor unit runs at 21 to 39 dB and the outdoor unit at 55 dB. The refrigerant is R32. The indoor unit measures 802 x 200 x 295 mm and weighs 8.7 kg, which makes it one of the lighter and slimmer units in this capacity class. The Bosch catalogue does not give minimum and maximum capacity for this variant, so we do not describe a modulation range.
This model makes sense when you want a sensible balance between features and the scope of the purchase: a living room, bedroom or home office that needs a quiet unit with good air filtration but no advanced automation. Whether the set suits your flat is decided during the free LeoKlima assessment, when we measure the pipe run and look at the place for the outdoor unit. We quote the installed price after a free assessment. Below we describe what this air conditioner does, what it does not promise, and what to check before you order.
In the Bosch family the Climate 4000i sits in the middle: above it are models with class A+++ and integrated Wi-Fi, and we treat it as a choice for someone who wants a solid all-year unit rather than the maximum number of gadgets. Bosch offers it in three capacities, from 2.6 kW to 5.2 kW. The 3.5 kW version is the middle one and suits a typical living room in an apartment block or a larger bedroom with a big window.
The key words in the manufacturer's description are reliability, efficiency and comfort all year round. A reversible design means the same unit cools and heats, without a separate heater. The note about heating even at low outdoor temperatures has its limits, which we describe further on, because the heating operating range ends at the values given in the technical table.
For a customer in Warsaw, the practical point is that the series comes as a simple single-room set with clear unit codes. That makes it easy to check exactly what goes on your wall and to compare this offer with others by looking at numbers rather than commercial names. Three questions help when choosing. Should the air conditioner also work in the heating season? Do you want to operate it only with a remote? Do you care more about low complexity than about a record energy class? If the answers are yes, the Climate 4000i is on target, and the rest of the budget can go into a good installation.
Cooling at 3.5 kW with a seasonal SEER of 8.0 gives class A++. In heating the unit delivers 3.8 kW at SCOP 4.6, also class A++. The difference between cooling and heating capacity is small, so in spring and autumn the air conditioner will warm a room of similar size to the one it cools in July. The Bosch catalogue gives no minimum or maximum capacity for this variant, so we cannot talk about the width of modulation or promise specific behaviour at low load.
The outdoor operating range is -15 to 50°C in cooling and -21 to 24°C in heating. Bosch addressed low-temperature operation in two ways: a heated condensate tray and a heating cable at the compressor. The first helps prevent condensate from freezing under the outdoor unit, the second helps the compressor in frost. The anti-frost mode keeps the room above 8°C when nobody is home, which protects the flat from getting too cold.
The fins of the outdoor heat exchanger have a special anti-corrosion coating, which the manufacturer says increases resistance to corrosion. That is material protection, not a cleaning function, and that is how we treat it. The pipe run between the units can be up to 25 m, which is enough in most flats, although we always measure the actual length on site.
This is where the Climate 4000i shows why people choose it. According to Bosch the ioniser removes dust, mould, viruses and bacteria from the air. Three filters add to this: a high-density HD filter, a cold catalytic filter and a BIO filter. All of them are meant to limit the spread of harmful elements in the room. For an allergy sufferer that is a sensible set, provided the filters are cleaned as the manual says, because a clogged filter does nothing useful.
The iClean function deals with the indoor unit's heat exchanger: it heats the evaporator to 56°C to remove bacteria and mould. This matters because a damp exchanger is the typical source of an unpleasant smell returning after a season. It does not replace the annual service visit.
As for air distribution, in 3D mode the louvres move automatically and spread the airflow around the whole room. Wind Avoid Me directs the airflow towards the ceiling, so it does not blow straight at a person on the sofa. Follow Me measures temperature where the remote is rather than at the unit. Silent Mode lowers the indoor unit's noise, and the catalogue gives a level of 21 to 39 dB depending on the fan speed.
The basic controller is a standard wireless remote. With it you can operate every mode without any app, and that is how this air conditioner is most often used day to day. The remote also acts as the sensor for the Follow Me function, so it is worth placing where you sit.
Phone connectivity needs extra equipment. Bosch describes the IP Gateway module as an additional accessory that allows control from the Bosch HomeCom Easy app. So the 3.5 kW set has no Wi-Fi as standard, and we do not promise that the module is in the box. The app shows outdoor or room temperature, operating mode, technical parameters and error messages, so it also helps with basic diagnostics.
The remote has one practical advantage: it does not depend on your home network, the router password or a charged phone. For older family members, fixed buttons are sometimes simpler than a touchscreen. If you plan to control the unit from your phone, tell us at the quote stage. We will include the module in the order and configure it at commissioning. If a remote is enough for you, nothing extra needs to be bought. Energy saving is handled from the remote: ECO mode, according to the manufacturer, reduces energy use by up to 20% compared with conventional operation, and the Gear function lets you choose one of three levels of power consumption.
The indoor unit is white, with a plain rectangular shape and no decoration. It is 802 mm wide, 200 mm deep and 295 mm high, and weighs 8.7 kg. A depth of 200 mm matters in narrow niches above doors or next to furniture: the unit protrudes from the wall less than many competitors of similar capacity. White plastic suits most interiors and does not draw the eye.
In this set we describe the white version and confirm only that one. If the colour of the casing matters to you, ask us before ordering instead of assuming that the catalogue set will turn up in another shade. White has the advantage that on a light wall the unit almost disappears, and on a darker one it looks like a deliberate element of the interior.
Practical details matter in daily life too. The unit weighs 8.7 kg, so one person with a helper can hang it without difficulty, and the wall bracket needs no special reinforcement in a typical brick or block wall. In plasterboard we choose the fixing on site, after looking at the construction. The outdoor unit has a sound pressure level of 55 dB. That is worth considering when choosing the location: a balcony next to a bedroom window is a worse idea than a courtyard-side facade. We discuss this during the assessment, together with any consent your building community needs for changing the facade.
As part of installation we mount the indoor and outdoor units and run the refrigerant, electrical and condensate lines over a distance of up to a few metres. This includes the wall pass-through and a neat layout of the pipes. We then evacuate the system, check it for leaks, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit.
Finally we check the operating parameters, configure the controls, show you how to use the air conditioner and hand over the warranty documents. Possible surcharges are discussed before work: a longer run, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, chasing, a condensate pump and work from a lift platform. The maximum installation length for this model is 25 m, and we set the scope at the free assessment.
Two things count in use: regular filter cleaning and an annual service. The three filters in the Climate 4000i work well only when they are not clogged with dust. The iClean function helps keep the exchanger clean, but it does not replace checking the condensate drain and the state of the installation. The best time for a service is early spring, before the first heat. We pay attention to practical matters customers rarely ask about before buying: where to drain the condensate, how to route the pipes in a flat after renovation, and whether there is any electrical wiring in the wall. We check these at the assessment, not on installation day. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.
Choose the Climate 4000i 3.5 kW if you need a single room with quiet operation from 21 dB, an ioniser, filters and the iClean function, and a remote is all the control you need. Class A++ in cooling and heating, with SEER 8.0 and SCOP 4.6, are sensible values for everyday use in a flat.
Consider another model if you care about class A+++, built-in Wi-Fi or information on a wide capacity modulation range. The Bosch catalogue does not confirm these features for this variant. That is not a flaw, just a pointer to where its abilities end, and we say so honestly before purchase, not after installation.
It will do well in a flat where the air conditioner works mainly in summer and on cooler spring and autumn days, and the remote is the natural way for the household to operate it. It will do worse where the user wants to switch the unit on remotely from the street without buying an accessory, or expects the highest seasonal class. In older blocks with thin outer walls, choosing the place for the outdoor unit carefully is a sensible complement, because 55 dB from a balcony can be heard in neighbouring windows. Book a free assessment and we will measure the run, judge the place for the outdoor unit and tell you whether the installation fits the standard scope.
