The Candy Pura, in the CY-12RAIN-A version with the CY-12RAOUT-A outdoor unit, is a wall-mounted air conditioner whose capacity is easy to misread. The manufacturer gives a nominal cooling capacity of 3.2 kW, within a range of 0.8 to 3.8 kW, and a nominal heating capacity of 3.5 kW, within a range of 0.7 to 4.0 kW. It is the second figure that shops sometimes present as the unit's capacity. When sizing for a room, cooling is what counts first, so in our catalogue we describe it as a 3.2 kW model and match it to rooms where that is enough.

The Pura's strong point is its operating range. According to the July 2025 catalogue sheet, the unit cools at outdoor temperatures from -20 to 43°C and heats from -20 to 24°C. For a flat in Warsaw, this means the air conditioner does not drop out on a frosty night, although in hard frost its heating output will be lower than nominal. Efficiency is described by SEER 6.1 in the A++ class and SCOP 4.0 in the A+ class for the average climate zone, which is the one that applies to Poland. The refrigerant is R32.

The second thing Candy emphasises is heat exchanger hygiene. The Self-Clean feature combines Cold Expansion, which strips deposits from the surface during the defrost phase, with Express Washing, which uses a hydrophilic coating to speed up water run-off by as much as 20%. On top of that come the hOn app and voice control through Google Home and Alexa. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.

Overview and positioning

Candy is a brand within the Haier Europe group, known in Poland mainly for washing machines and fridges. Pura is its line of wall-mounted air conditioners, available in several capacities; this page covers the CY-12RAIN-A version. The manufacturer presents the Pura as a unit meant to bring fresh air into the home, easy to install and remove, with a feature that keeps the evaporator clean. Those three threads, hygiene, simple installation and the app, define the character of this model.

In our catalogue the Pura sits among the sensibly priced models. There are no elaborate presence sensors and no advanced filtration described by the manufacturer. What it does offer is a wide heating range, down to -20°C outside, and a full set of basic parameters in a clear catalogue sheet. That makes it easy to compare the Pura with other units without guessing what individual figures mean.

A cooling capacity of 3.2 kW is typical for a bedroom, a home office or a smaller living room. Whether it is enough in a particular flat depends on sun exposure, the floor, the size of the windows and the number of people in the room. We assess these factors during a free assessment before proposing a specific set. If the room is large, heavily glazed or right under the roof, we talk about a bigger capacity. If it is small and shaded, 3.2 kW leaves clear headroom, and the unit spends most of its time running at low output, which helps keep the temperature even.

Cooling and heating technology

The Pura's compressor works across a wide output range: in cooling from 0.8 to 3.8 kW, with a nominal 3.2 kW, and in heating from 0.7 to 4.0 kW, with a nominal 3.5 kW. The low bottom figure means that on a cool evening or at night the unit can run at low output instead of repeatedly switching on and off. The top figure gives headroom on a hot afternoon, when a west-facing room heats up the most. The wide heating range makes sense in the same way: in October the unit tops up a room at low output, and on a cold January evening it can raise output to 4.0 kW. As a result, the room temperature changes gently, without noticeable jumps.

The most important number for anyone who wants to top up heat in their flat is -20°C. That is the outdoor temperature down to which the manufacturer allows heating mode. In Warsaw conditions this covers practically the whole winter, although in the hardest frosts heating output drops and the unit should be treated as a supplement to the heating, not its only source. The upper heating limit is 24°C and the upper cooling limit is 43°C. The lower cooling limit is also -20°C, which matters in rooms with a lot of equipment.

SEER 6.1 corresponds to the A++ cooling class on the EU scale. SCOP 4.0 gives the A+ class in the average climate zone; the manufacturer also lists A+++ for the warm zone, but that does not apply to the Polish climate. With sensible settings and correctly sized capacity, these values let you use the unit outside the heatwave season too without worrying about a big jump in the electricity bill. The final running cost naturally depends on the flat's insulation, the set temperature and the number of operating hours, which is why we ask during the assessment how you plan to use the unit.

Comfort and air quality

With the Pura, the manufacturer devotes most attention to keeping the heat exchanger clean. The Self-Clean feature is designed to remove bacteria, mould and dirt that build up on the evaporator. It works in two steps. First comes Cold Expansion: during the defrost phase frost forms on the exchanger, and as it melts it pulls deposits off the surface. Then Express Washing makes use of a hydrophilic treatment of the exchanger surface, thanks to which, according to the manufacturer, water runs off up to 20% faster and carries the dirt away.

This makes it easier to keep the inside of the unit clean, but it does not replace cleaning the mesh filters or periodic servicing. Household dust still settles on the filters and has to be removed, more often during heavy use, in a home with pets or after renovation work. We show you how to remove and wash the filters at commissioning, and for anything unclear we refer to the manufacturer's manual supplied with the set, which gives the recommended frequency. Self-Clean can be started from the app with a single button, which makes regular use easier. It is best run after a week of heavy cooling, when the most moisture and dust collects on the exchanger.

According to the catalogue sheet, the sound pressure of the indoor unit ranges from 20 to 38 dB, depending on fan speed. We do not attach judgements to these figures; how noise is perceived in a bedroom depends on the mounting position and the settings. When choosing a spot in a bedroom, we consider which way the airflow is directed and how far from the bed the unit will hang.

Controls and Wi-Fi

For the Pura, Candy describes control through the hOn app on a smartphone or tablet. With it you can switch the air conditioner on and off, change the temperature and settings from anywhere, programme on and off times, and set a chosen mode for a set period, for example Holiday Mode while you are away. The app also shows the weather forecast and lets you start Self-Clean with a single button.

The manufacturer also lists voice control through the Google Home and Alexa assistants, which can set the temperature and change settings. The catalogue sheet does not, however, list a Wi-Fi module separately or say whether one is included in the set. That is why, before ordering, we confirm with the supplier whether the specific unit connects to the app without additional parts, and only then do we promise phone control. We would rather clear this up before installation than disappoint a customer after commissioning.

At commissioning we set up the operating modes with you and show you how to use Self-Clean. If the app connection is available, we configure it together with your home network and show you the on/off schedule. If you prefer conventional operation, the unit works independently of the network and the app. All the basic functions, meaning cooling, heating and changing the temperature, are then available without a phone.

Design and build

The CY-12RAIN-A indoor unit is white, 805 mm wide and weighs 8.8 kg. The manufacturer gives the other two dimensions in an order that raises doubts, so we do not repeat them here and check them on the unit before installation. The low weight makes it easier to hang the unit on partition walls too, provided they are suitably reinforced. A width of about 80 cm fits above most windows and balcony doors.

The look is plain and neutral, with no decorative panels. The white casing suits most light interiors and does not dominate the room. What the manufacturer does stress is ease of installation and removal: optimised components are meant to speed up installation, and easy removal makes later maintenance simpler. For us as installers, that means easier access during servicing, although the installation work itself remains standard in scope.

According to the manufacturer, the CY-12RAOUT-A outdoor unit weighs 22 kg. When choosing a place for it on a balcony or façade, we look at service access, condensate drainage, the neighbours' windows and the housing association's requirements. The maximum line length between the units is 20 m, which gives plenty of freedom in arranging the equipment in a flat. It allows, for instance, the outdoor unit to go on a balcony on the other side of the flat if there is no room for it on the bedroom side.

Installation and service

A standard installation covers fitting the indoor and outdoor units, up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate lines, a wall penetration and neat routing of the installation. We pull a vacuum and leak-test the system, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit. We then check operating parameters, configure the controls, walk you through operation and hand over the warranty documents.

The Pura allows a line of up to 20 m, but every metre beyond the standard section means extra work and material. Possible extra charges are always discussed before work starts: a longer line, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, wall chasing, a condensate pump or work from a lift platform. We agree the scope during a free assessment, and we quote the installed price after a free assessment.

Self-Clean reduces the build-up of dirt on the heat exchanger, but an annual service is still needed. It covers cleaning the filters and heat exchangers, checking the condensate drain and verifying operating parameters. Because the Pura is suitable for heating on frosty days too, the service is best scheduled before the heating season, with the filters checked every few weeks all year round. During the service we also check the outdoor unit, because leaves and dust settling on its exchanger reduce performance in both cooling and heating.

Who this model is for — summary

The Candy Pura 3.2 kW is for someone who wants to cool a room in summer and top up its heat in winter as well. The main arguments are heating operation down to -20°C outside, 3.5 kW of heating capacity, SEER 6.1 in the A++ class, SCOP 4.0 in the A+ class, the Self-Clean feature with Cold Expansion and Express Washing, and the hOn app with Google Home and Alexa support. A line length of up to 20 m makes it easy to position the units.

The model is less suited to people who expect extensive filtration, presence sensors or complete acoustic data for the outdoor unit. It is also worth remembering that the cooling capacity is 3.2 kW, not 3.5 kW, so a larger version may be better for a very sunny living room. For a mid-sized room with moderate sun exposure this capacity is usually enough, but we leave the final call to the assessment, because every flat heats up differently.
