The Daikin Emura in the 3.4 kW version (indoor unit FTXJ35A2V1BW, outdoor unit RXJ35A5V1B) is an air conditioner people buy with their eyes as much as with a spec sheet. The manufacturer calls it an icon of modern climate control and says outright that it was designed to be a pleasure to look at. We add the numbers: nominal cooling capacity is 3.4 kW and nominal heating capacity is 4.0 kW, so this is equipment for a bedroom, a living room or an open-plan lounge with a kitchenette in a typical Warsaw flat.

Inside, an inverter compressor runs on R32 refrigerant. Capacity modulates from 1.4 kW to 4.0 kW in cooling and from 1.4 kW to 5.2 kW in heating, and seasonal efficiency is SEER 8.73 and SCOP 5.15, which means A+++ in both modes. The indoor unit runs from 19 dB and up to 41 dB at its highest speed, while the outdoor unit reaches 49 dB. Heating works at outdoor temperatures down to -20°C (a wet-bulb figure, as the manufacturer notes in its data).

On top of that comes the set of functions Daikin is proudest of: the Coanda effect that sends air along the ceiling, an intelligent thermal sensor, Heat boost and Flash Streamer air purification. The model comes in three colours, white, silver and black. We describe the white variant, but the technical data is identical in all three. Before you buy, remember that an air conditioner is chosen for a room, not for a floor area on paper: sun exposure, ceiling height, the number of windows and how many people use the space all matter. That is why we visit, measure the pipe route and only then confirm that this capacity is right. If another size turns out to be better, we will say so openly. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.

Overview and positioning

Emura is the series in Daikin's range where the look of the unit matters as much as its parameters. The manufacturer presents it as a solution that balances form and function, with award-winning design meant to suit any interior. For a customer in Warsaw choosing an air conditioner for a flat, and who knows the indoor unit will hang in a visible spot, that is a real argument: nobody wants to hide it behind a wardrobe or disguise it.

The variant we describe carries the number 35, but to be fair, the manufacturer's nominal cooling capacity is 3.4 kW and the nominal heating capacity is 4.0 kW. That is a sensible size for a room where the unit works every day, not only during the worst heatwaves. The set consists of indoor unit FTXJ35A2V1BW and outdoor unit RXJ35A5V1B.

We point this model at people who want a showpiece that is also efficient. A+++ in both cooling and heating means the machine is not just decoration but a genuinely economical appliance for the whole year. It is also worth knowing what the model does not promise. It is a wall-mounted unit for a single room, not a ventilation system or a heat recovery unit, so it does not bring in fresh air. Its job is to hold temperature and comfort, and appearance is a full criterion here, not an afterthought.

Cooling and heating technology

The heart of the system is an inverter outdoor unit using R32. Because capacity is modulated, the unit does not switch on and off in turn but adjusts its output smoothly to demand. In cooling it works between 1.4 kW and 4.0 kW, in heating between 1.4 kW and 5.2 kW. At low load, for example in spring or autumn, that means running close to the bottom of the range and low electricity use.

Seasonal efficiency is SEER 8.73 for cooling and SCOP 5.15 for heating, both in class A+++. These values matter most in winter, when the air conditioner tops up the heating of a flat in shoulder seasons and on cooler days. The manufacturer gives a heating operating range from -20°C to 18°C (wet-bulb temperature) and a cooling range from -10°C to 50°C. For the record, we quote every value as the manufacturer wrote it, without rounding in our favour. If you compare offers, check whether a stated capacity is nominal or maximum, because brochures make it easy to mix them up. Here nominal cooling is 3.4 kW and maximum is 4.0 kW.

A separate function is Heat boost. According to the manufacturer it warms a room within minutes, which you will appreciate when you come home to a chilled flat. We do not promise a specific time, because it depends on volume, insulation and outdoor temperature. We only note that the function exists and belongs to this model.

Comfort and air quality

The most characteristic feature of the Emura is the Coanda effect. The airflow clings to the ceiling and spreads through the room instead of hitting people on the sofa or in bed. According to the manufacturer this gives a better temperature distribution across the whole room. If you cannot stand cold air on your neck, this is one of the main reasons to consider this model.

It is complemented by an intelligent thermal sensor that monitors temperature in every area of the room. The unit can therefore react to differences between zones rather than a single reading taken beside the indoor unit. For larger, irregular rooms with a kitchenette, that is sensible support. Good airflow also depends on placement. We hang the indoor unit so that the stream does not land directly on the bed or desk, and we leave enough gap below the ceiling for the Coanda effect to work at all. It is a small detail that decides whether the air conditioner is pleasant day to day.

As for the air itself, Daikin uses Flash Streamer in the Emura. In the manufacturer's description it breaks down allergens and removes unpleasant odours. Remember that it supplements ventilation and regular filter cleaning rather than replacing them. Indoor noise starts at 19 dB and the top speed is 41 dB, so a very quiet night setting is possible in a bedroom.

Controls and Wi-Fi

The manufacturer lists a remote controller in the set, described as intuitive and giving full control. That is the basic way to operate the unit day to day: setting the temperature, the mode and the airflow without reaching for a phone.

Besides the remote, Daikin mentions the Onecta app, meant to keep your home climate under control from anywhere. The manufacturer's text does not say whether network connectivity is built into this variant or needs an extra module, so we do not promise it as standard. If controlling the unit from your phone matters to you, ask about it during the free assessment and we will confirm the exact state for the specific set.

In practice that means we treat the app and the remote realistically: the remote is the primary tool, the phone a possible extra. We configure the controls during commissioning and show you how to switch modes, set the temperature and use the functions the manufacturer describes as the highlights of this model. One more detail: according to the manufacturer, a single outdoor unit can serve up to five indoor units. That applies to multi-room systems and is not what we describe in this set, but it shows that the Emura belongs to a larger family that can be extended.

Design and build

The indoor unit measures 900 mm wide, 305 mm high and 212 mm deep, and weighs 12 kg. It is a classic wall-mounted format with a distinctive, rounded silhouette. The manufacturer calls it an iconically designed wall unit and points out that the design has won many awards.

Colour matters, because the Emura is the kind of unit that stays in your field of view. You can choose a white, silver or black finish, and our description is based on the white version (FTXJ35A2V1BW). If you want another colour, tell us at the quotation stage. The technical parameters stay the same.

According to the manufacturer the outdoor unit is flexible in placement: it suits a roof, a wall or a garden. In a block of flats that usually means wall brackets or a balcony, but the specific place is always settled after we see the flat and with the consent of the community or building manager. Outdoor noise is 49 dB. The indoor unit weighs 12 kg, so it must be fixed to a load-bearing wall on a proper bracket, not to a thin partition. We check that on site. The look of the installation depends largely on how the cables and pipes are laid, so we route them by the shortest and least visible path the flat allows.

Installation and service

As part of installation we carry out the full set of work on the indoor and outdoor units. That covers up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate route, the wall passage and a neat run of the installation. We then evacuate the system and check it for leaks, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit.

After start-up we check operating parameters and configure the controls. Finally we show you how to operate the unit and hand over the warranty documents. The manufacturer allows an installation length of up to 20 m, but in flats the route is rarely that long.

Possible extra charges are discussed before work begins. They can concern a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, chasing walls, a condensate pump or work from a lift platform. We settle the scope at the free audit. Ownership is simple: clean the filters regularly and book a periodic service, and the unit will keep the efficiency it was rated for. After handover we show you how to remove and wash the filter, and we recommend repeating that regularly, especially in the heavy-use season. Once a year it is worth ordering a check in which we inspect tightness, the condensate drain and the condition of the heat exchangers.

Who this model is for — summary

The Daikin Emura 3.4 kW is for people who treat an air conditioner as part of the interior and not only as a technical device. If the unit will hang in a living room, in a visible place, the design and colour genuinely matter, and the Emura offers three finishes.

The second group is customers who expect high efficiency all year round. Class A+++ in cooling and heating, SEER 8.73 and SCOP 5.15, operation from 19 dB and heating down to -20°C (wet bulb) make a package that works in Warsaw both in summer and in the shoulder season. The Coanda effect and the thermal sensor help where an even draught-free airflow counts.

If you prefer simpler equipment without elaborate styling, our range includes other models that may better fit your priorities. We quote the installed price after a free assessment, so the best start is an enquiry, and we will match the capacity and the mounting spot to your flat. If you doubt that 3.5 kW is enough for your room, send us a floor plan or arrange a visit. We will calculate the demand and tell you honestly whether this size or another is better. The assessment costs nothing and commits you to nothing, and you get answers about colour, mounting location and timing straight away.
