The Fuji Electric KMCG-B with 3.4 kW of capacity is the black version of the popular KMCG series: a compact wall-mounted air conditioner using R32 refrigerant (indoor unit RSH12KMCG-B). The manufacturer describes the whole series as intelligent units designed with the environment in mind, with slim, stylish looks and a new air outlet design meant to give more comfortable air distribution and quiet running, as low as 20 dB(A). The series comes in two colour versions, white KMCG and black KMCG-B, and we describe the second one.

The figures are simple and easy to read. Nominal cooling capacity is 3.4 kW (range 0.9 kW to 3.9 kW) and nominal heating capacity is 4.0 kW (0.9 kW to 5.3 kW). Seasonal efficiency is SEER 7.3 and SCOP 4.6, which means class A++ in both modes. The indoor unit runs between 20 dB and 40 dB, is 834 mm wide and only 222 mm deep, and weighs 10 kg. Heating is possible at outdoor temperatures down to -20°C and cooling up to 50°C.

One caveat straight away: this model has no Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi description on the manufacturer's page applies to a different series, KMTG-B, so we do not treat phone control as a feature of the KMCG-B variant. You operate it with a wireless remote, and instead of an app you get comprehensive time programs. We quote the installed price after a free assessment. The right capacity depends on the room: sun exposure, ceiling height, the number of windows and the number of people all count, so on site we look at the flat and measure the route before confirming that 3.4 kW is the right size.

Overview and positioning

The KMCG-B is a simple, down-to-earth wall-mounted air conditioner in the Fuji Electric range, without an elaborate smart layer. The manufacturer stresses three things: the environment (R32 refrigerant), a slim, stylish body and quiet running. For a customer in Warsaw looking for a unit for a bedroom or living room who does not need an app, that is an honest, understandable set of features.

We describe the black variant, marked KMCG-B. It has the same technical data as the white KMCG version and differs in the colour of the casing. In our table the indoor unit is RSH12KMCG-B. The set also contains an outdoor unit and a wireless remote. Detailed data for the outdoor unit, such as its noise, is not in this source, so we do not quote it and we confirm it when we prepare the quote.

The positioning is therefore clear: this is equipment for people who value calm, predictable operation with a remote and a shallow indoor unit, and who say they do not need an app. If Wi-Fi is a must for you, choose another model or ask us about a variant that has it as standard. Simplicity does not mean missing basics. Automatic mode change, automatic airflow adjustment, vertical louvres and a night program are functions you use every day, not occasionally. For many flats that is exactly the range needed: set the temperature, pick a mode and forget about the unit until the indicator reminds you about the filter.

Cooling and heating technology

The unit runs on R32. The manufacturer notes that the high efficiency class comes from a lambda heat exchanger, an enlarged fan and the new refrigerant. Cooling capacity varies from 0.9 kW to 3.9 kW around a nominal 3.4 kW, and heating capacity from 0.9 kW to 5.3 kW around a nominal 4.0 kW. A wide modulation range means that at low load the unit can run at very low output.

Seasonal efficiency is SEER 7.3 in cooling and SCOP 4.6 in heating, class A++ in both cases. That is a good, solid result, though not the highest possible. The operating range is wide: cooling from -10°C to 50°C and heating from -20°C to 24°C outdoor temperature, so the unit can top up heating in a flat in the colder months too. At this capacity and modulation the unit suits a single room where heat load changes through the day: sun in the morning, several people in the evening, only the bedroom at night. Depending on the layout, 3.4 kW can be too much for a small bedroom, so we always calculate demand on site and not from floor area alone.

Among the functions that govern operation, the manufacturer describes an economy mode that slightly raises the temperature setpoint in cooling and lowers it in heating, and a full-power mode that runs the fan and compressor at maximum to reach the set temperature quickly. There is also automatic switching between cooling and heating and a 10 C HEAT function that keeps an empty room at 10°C so it does not get too cold. Economy mode is useful when you want lower electricity use at the cost of a small change in temperature, and you use full power only occasionally, after coming home to a stuffy flat.

Comfort and air quality

Quiet is the manufacturer's main argument: a special fan design is meant to eliminate turbulent flow, and indoor noise is between 20 dB and 40 dB. In a bedroom that is a level you can set as practically inaudible at night, and by day it does not interfere with conversation or work.

Airflow is adjusted automatically. A microprocessor matches the fan strength to changes in room temperature, and automatic vertical louvres change the direction of the stream up and down, giving a fanning effect. For the bedroom the manufacturer provides a night program in which the microprocessor gradually changes the room temperature to ensure comfortable sleep.

Two filters look after the air. The long-life ionic filter removes unpleasant odours through oxidation and reduction of ions generated on the surface of small ceramic elements. The electrostatic polyphenol filter catches fine dust particles, fungal spores and microorganisms, while polyphenol compounds from apples are meant to prevent further growth of bacteria. An LED on the unit reminds you when the filter needs cleaning. For the black casing it is also worth not mounting the unit too close to sources of dust, because dust is more visible on a dark surface.

Controls and Wi-Fi

The most important information: the KMCG-B has no Wi-Fi. The manufacturer's page describes Wi-Fi control for the KMTG-B series and that is not this variant. The set includes a wireless remote and everyday operation relies on it, with no app and no cloud account.

Instead of remote control you get a sensible set of time programs. The daily timer lets you set four cycles: on, off, on-and-off and off-and-on. That way the unit can start before you get home and switch off after you leave, without touching a phone. After a power cut the unit returns to work with its last settings.

For someone who wants the air conditioner to simply do its job, that is an advantage: less configuration, fewer things to update and nothing that could stop working after a router change. If controlling it from outside your home matters to you, this variant is not for you. Many people ask whether lack of an app is a flaw. The answer depends on lifestyle. If you usually know when you return home, the daily timer solves it. If your plans change daily and you want to switch the unit on remotely, look for a model with connectivity as standard and tell us about it at the quotation stage.

Design and build

The indoor unit is 834 mm wide, 270 mm high and 222 mm deep, and weighs 10 kg. The manufacturer stresses precisely the 222 mm depth, which is meant to let the unit blend into any space. A slim body matters in flats where the air conditioner hangs above a door or in a small recess.

The KMCG-B is the black finish, while the KMCG is white. The manufacturer does not describe the type of black finish, so we limit ourselves to the colour: a black casing stands out on a light wall and may blend into a dark one. The choice depends on the interior, so we show pictures of both versions before ordering.

The set includes the indoor unit, the outdoor unit and the remote. The manufacturer distinguishes an outdoor unit for models 07-12 from one for model 14, and ours is size 12. For the full picture, ask about the outdoor unit details, because we do not have its dimensions or noise in our data. A shallow body also means the indoor unit sticks out less from the wall. In narrow hallways or above doors that matters, because it does not catch the eye or the head. We fix the 10 kg indoor unit to a load-bearing wall on a proper bracket and route pipes and cables so they are as hidden as possible.

Installation and service

As part of installation we mount the indoor and outdoor units and run up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate route. That includes the wall passage and a neat run of the installation. We then evacuate the system and check it for leaks, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit.

After start-up we check operating parameters and configure the controls, meaning the daily timer, the night program and the operating modes on the remote. At the end we show you how to use the unit and hand over the warranty documents. We do not have a maximum installation length for this variant in the manufacturer's data, so we settle it on site.

Possible extra charges are discussed before work. They may result from a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, chasing walls, a condensate pump or work from a lift platform. We settle the scope at the free audit. In everyday use the indicator reminding you to clean the filter helps: when it lights up, take out the filters and wash them as instructed. Once a year it is worth ordering a service of the unit. If the building has restrictions on facades, we agree the place for the outdoor unit with the building manager before starting, so there are no surprises after installation.

Who this model is for — summary

The Fuji Electric KMCG-B is for people who want a simple, quiet air conditioner for one room and prefer a remote to an app. The black casing, the 222 mm depth and noise from 20 dB suit a modern bedroom or living room where the unit should be discreet.

It is not a model for someone who needs Wi-Fi and phone control, nor for someone seeking class A+++. Class A++ with SEER 7.3 and SCOP 4.6 is a reasonable compromise, but not a record. On the other hand, the set of time programs, the ionic and polyphenol filters and the 10 C HEAT mode handle everyday situations well, such as a weekend away or a cool night.

We quote the installed price after a free assessment. Write or call and we will arrange a visit, show both colour versions and choose a place for both units. A free assessment is enough to check whether the unit fits your flat, and we will help you pick the capacity and mounting spot without unnecessary risk. If after the visit it turns out that another size or another model is better, we will say so plainly.
