The Gree Airy 3.5 kW is an air conditioner you buy first of all so that it also heats when it is really cold outside. The manufacturer declares uninterrupted heating down to -25°C, and the HDT hybrid defrost is responsible for stable winter operation. According to the description it allows heating for up to 10 hours without a break, and the average defrost time has been cut to 2-3 minutes. For a Warsaw flat with a cool corner room, that is a concrete argument. If you live on the top floor or in a corner flat with a lot of window area, that is exactly when it makes sense to check how the unit will perform in your conditions before you decide.
Nominal output is 3.5 kW in cooling and 3.8 kW in heating. Seasonal efficiency is SEER 8.5 (A+++) and SCOP 4.6 (A++). The indoor unit measures 907 × 292 × 200 mm and weighs 10.5 kg, and runs at a sound level from 19 to 44 dB, while the outdoor unit is rated at 53 dB. The unit codes are GWH12AVCXD-K6DNA1A/I and GWH12AVCXD-K6DNA1A/O, and the refrigerant is R32. The key figures are therefore not only the nominal output but also the cooling maximum of 4.5 kW and the heating upper limit of 4.9 kW, which show the reserve for extreme days.
The manufacturer also puts emphasis on design and on the G-AI Plus 2.0 artificial intelligence, which is said to save up to 24% of energy. Importantly, the manufacturer's description does not mention Wi-Fi or an app, so we do not promise remote control. We take care of choosing the place, the installation route and commissioning. We quote the installed price after a free assessment. We describe all of this strictly on the manufacturer's data, with no additions of our own.
Gree Airy is a collection that the manufacturer presents as a union of design and engineering. The first sentence of its description says that in creating an interior the most valuable things are functionality and style, and that the collection aims to inspire with innovative design, boldness of colour and a mix of textures. In our catalogue the indoor unit casing is white, and we add no details the manufacturer does not give. The choice of this model, though, is decided mainly by winter operation. In practice we therefore start the conversation by asking which rooms lose heat fastest, and only then about wall colour and the place for the unit.
From our perspective Airy is an option for a client who wants to use the air conditioner also as supplementary heating in colder months. The manufacturer lists wide operating temperature ranges and hybrid defrosting, which are meant to guarantee stable operation and heating down to -25°C. We treat such declarations as manufacturer data, not as a promise for every flat, because the result depends on insulation, floor area and the way of installation. If your flat is well insulated you will not need the extreme ranges, but a reserve does no harm, especially in the shoulder season when central heating is not yet running.
The equipment list is extensive but clearly aimed at thermal comfort. There are automatic louvres on both axes, seven fan speeds, three sleep modes, dehumidification, +8°C hold and temperature reading from the remote. What is not in the description, for example Wi-Fi, we do not add. The manufacturer also describes airflow at many angles, so the louvre setting can be matched to the furniture layout in the room.
The technical data start with output: 3.5 kW in cooling, with a maximum of 4.5 kW, and 3.8 kW in heating, with a range from 1.0 to 4.9 kW. A high share of heating output relative to cooling is a desirable trait in our climate. SEER 8.5 in cooling (class A+++) and SCOP 4.6 in heating (class A++) describe efficiency across the whole season, not at a single operating point. A reserve of output in both directions gives the unit plenty of room to manoeuvre: in heatwaves it can run near its maximum, and on moderate days drop to low speeds.
The distinguishing feature is HDT hybrid defrost technology. Instead of interrupting heating for longer, the unit, according to the manufacturer, shortens the average defrost time to 2-3 minutes and can heat without disruption for up to 10 hours. As the manufacturer puts it, this lets you enjoy warmth in the room even while the outdoor unit is defrosting. For the client that means fewer temperature dips on the coldest days. It is worth remembering, though, that the stated uninterrupted run applies to conditions defined by the manufacturer, and in practice depends on humidity and the outdoor air temperature.
The manufacturer describes the G-AI Plus 2.0 function as an artificial-intelligence algorithm that selects operating parameters and may indirectly take into account the room area, heat load, sun exposure and the specifics of the installation. According to the manufacturer this can save up to 24% of energy. We treat that figure as a declared result under the manufacturer's conditions and do not calculate bills from it. The refrigerant is R32.
The indoor unit runs at a sound level from 19 to 44 dB and the outdoor unit at 53 dB. Those are decent values, but for a bedroom the higher speeds will be audible. The manufacturer describes a quiet mode and a night mode that automatically adjusts the settings overnight, as well as three sleep modes that lower the temperature setpoints for more comfort. In practice this means that during the day, when nobody is sleeping, you can allow yourself higher speeds, and choose gentler settings for the night.
A wide, rounded louvre allows the airflow to be set at many angles. According to the manufacturer the stream reaches as far as 15.5 m, which helps in a long living room when you want air to reach the far end of the space. Thanks to a special louvre setting, two-way airflow at the same time is also possible, which avoids a stream aimed directly at people. The 15.5 m range is the manufacturer's figure, so in an ordinary room you will not use all of it, but it gives confidence that the airflow does not stop just beyond the unit. If someone in the household is sensitive to draughts, the louvre setting is worth discussing at installation.
A dehumidifying mode that intelligently lowers air humidity is also available, along with a +8°C hold function, that is heating an unused room. The manufacturer's description does not mention filters or ionization, so we do not present them as features of this variant. Filters need regular cleaning anyway, and the whole installation is worth checking once a year. We mention this honestly so that nobody expects filtration from this model that the manufacturer does not describe.
The manufacturer's description says nothing about Wi-Fi or a mobile app, so we do not claim this model has them. If remote control from a smartphone matters to you, tell us before ordering and we will check the available options and discuss whether another model would be a better choice. The remote is then the main tool, so it is best to place it so that the sensor in the remote lies close to where you spend your time.
Among the control functions the manufacturer lists temperature reading from the sensor in the remote, automatic vertical and horizontal louvres, seven fan speeds and three sleep modes. Reading from the remote is practical, because the thermostat measures the temperature where you sit, not only under the ceiling next to the unit. The +8°C hold function is useful in a flat you rarely visit in winter, for example a holiday house or a spare room.
During commissioning we configure the controls and show how to use the remote and the individual operating modes. For people who like to set an air conditioner once and forget it, a good starting point is night mode and the G-AI Plus 2.0 algorithm. We do not promise functions that are not in the description, but we are happy to explain each one that is listed.
The manufacturer speaks of AIRY as a collection with innovative design, boldness of colour and an intriguing collage of textures. In our catalogue the indoor unit casing is white. Beyond that we do not describe the finish or visual details, because the manufacturer's description does not contain them. It is best to look at the photos on the manufacturer's page and compare them with your wall colour. What matters to us is that a white body combines easily with most walls, which makes choosing the spot easier.
The indoor unit measures 907 × 292 × 200 mm and weighs 10.5 kg. At 907 mm wide, in small rooms it is worth checking that the wall has enough space. A depth of 200 mm means the body does not protrude far from the plane of the wall.
How the unit looks on the wall depends largely on how the installation is routed. We route pipes and cables neatly, and where needed we suggest hiding them in a chase or a cover strip, which we discuss with the client before the work. Before hanging we check the level and the distance from the ceiling so that the airflow can work freely.
Installation covers mounting the indoor and outdoor units and running up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate lines. We make the wall penetration and route the installation neatly, evacuate the system and check it for leaks, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit. We have no maximum installation length for this model in the data, so we set the scope at the free assessment. For winter operation the stability of the outdoor unit and free access to it for service also matter.
Because the model is meant to work in winter too, we pay particular attention to condensate drainage and to the position of the outdoor unit, so that it is well ventilated and protected from snow piling up. After start-up we check the operating parameters and configure the controls, and at the end we give an operating briefing and hand over the warranty documents. The briefing includes showing how to set the sleep and dehumidifying modes.
Possible surcharges, discussed before the work, are a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, chasing, a condensate pump and work from a lift platform. We quote the installed price after a free assessment. After the heating and cooling seasons we recommend a service visit, filter cleaning and a check of the condensate drain. We always confirm the scope in advance so the client knows exactly what the price covers.
The Gree Airy 3.5 kW is for someone who wants an air conditioner that is useful in the cold part of the year too: with a SCOP of 4.6, a heating output of 3.8 kW and a declared heating operation down to -25°C. It fits a flat where air conditioning is meant to support heating in spring and autumn and, if needed, on frostier days as well. It will also work well in a living room joined to the kitchen, where airflow with a long reach covers the whole space evenly.
You will also appreciate it if you like to steer the airflow direction: the reach of up to 15.5 m and the option of two-way airflow help in longer rooms. It is not, however, a model for someone who requires a phone app, because the manufacturer's description does not provide one. For people who value quiet above all, we recommend a conversation about the 19 to 44 dB range and how it is felt in a bedroom.
If you want to check whether Airy will work for you, book a free assessment. We will look at the wall, choose the place for the outdoor unit and quote the installed price. We will come, measure and say honestly whether this model is the right choice.
