The Rotenso Elis in the 3.4 kW variant is a wall-mounted inverter split air conditioner in which particular attention has been paid to appearance. A deep, satin-black casing is paired with a mirror front panel that resembles a sheet of dark glass. The manufacturer says this form suits loft, industrial and glamour interiors, and it works especially well with graphite walls and dark furniture. That matters, because an air conditioner hangs on the wall all year round, including when it is not running.

In terms of parameters the Elis is a compact model with modest dimensions. The nominal capacity is 3.4 kW in both cooling and heating, the SEER of 6.1 gives an A++ class and the SCOP of 4.0 an A+ class. The indoor unit runs from 22 to 42 dB, and heating is declared down to -20 °C outdoors. It weighs 7.3 kg and is 778 mm wide, so it takes up little space on the wall.

For convenience there are automatic 4D louvres, the wide eMOTO airflow angle and the Smart Wi-Fi function, which lets you control the air conditioner from a phone or tablet. We give the installed price after a free assessment, because it depends on the layout of the flat and the length of the pipe route. Below we describe how this model performs in everyday use, what it offers in comfort and air quality, and what installation looks like in a Warsaw flat. We want the customer to know the model's limits in advance and to compare it with others on concrete numbers, not general slogans.

Overview and positioning

The Rotenso Elis is a model in the manufacturer's range in which appearance matters as much as the parameters. The 3.4 kW variant has a nominal capacity of 3.4 kW in both cooling and heating, and the compressor modulation range runs from 1.0 to 3.8 kW in both modes. That makes it a device meant more for a single room of average size than for a large open space.

Against models with a higher energy class, the Elis is a proposal for people who put aesthetics first and treat energy use as one of several criteria. The SEER of 6.1 (class A++) and SCOP of 4.0 (class A+) are lower than in top A+++ models, but they still describe an efficient, modern inverter air conditioner. The final running cost depends on the room's insulation, the settings and the running time. The nominal capacity quoted by the manufacturer applies to a specific variant, so our quote always names the exact model and its technical data. For a bedroom or a small living room this capacity is usually enough, but we decide only after seeing the room.

It is a model for a customer who is choosing an air conditioner for a flat in Warsaw and wants the device to fit the interior rather than stand out as a white block. Heating down to -20 °C means it can also be used in winter, and the Smart Wi-Fi function makes remote operation easier. We always check capacity selection at a free assessment, because sun exposure, room height and the number of occupants all matter.

Cooling and heating technology

The Elis uses a DC inverter that matches the compressor speed to current demand. The unit therefore runs smoothly and the room temperature changes gently. The fans are driven by energy-saving BLDC motors, and the refrigerant is R32, which the manufacturer describes as a solution with a lower environmental impact than older refrigerants.

The nominal capacity is 3.4 kW in cooling, with modulation from 1.0 to 3.8 kW, and 3.4 kW in heating, with modulation in the same range. The modulation range from 1.0 to 3.8 kW means that at low demand the compressor can run at low speed, which favours quietness and reduces the number of starts. That matters in a flat, where the air conditioner often runs for many hours in a row. A SEER of 6.1 means class A++ in cooling and a SCOP of 4.0 class A+ in heating. The outdoor temperature range covers cooling from -15 °C to 53 °C and heating from -20 °C to 30 °C. According to the manufacturer's description, inverter technology allows the air conditioner to heat a room efficiently even at -20 °C, which is enough for typical Warsaw frosts.

Before airflow starts in heating mode, the unit first starts the refrigeration circuit so as not to blow cold air. The Smart 8 °C function switches heating on by itself so that the room does not cool down too far while you are away. Auto-restart memory restores the previous settings after a brief power cut, and self-diagnosis shows an error code in case of a fault.

Comfort and air quality

The indoor unit's noise level ranges from 22 to 42 dB, and the outdoor unit is rated at 54 dB. A super quiet mode is available, in which the fan runs at low speed, and a sleep function that automatically changes the temperature and fan speed to create good conditions for night-time rest. The wide eMOTO airflow angle spreads the stream of air around the room, so that cooling or heating is even.

Automatic 4D louvres, controlled with the remote or a wall controller, let you set the airflow direction vertically and horizontally, so that the air does not hit a bed or desk head-on. There is also a turbo mode, which briefly raises compressor and fan output, and an ECO mode that limits energy use. The panel display can be switched off completely, for example at night.

Hygiene of the unit is handled by the iAIR system: an HD pre-filter, automatic cleaning that dries the exchanger, and multi-stage air filtration. Depending on the version, 3-in-1 filters are also available, and the iClean function, which chills the exchanger strongly and then heats it, is according to the manufacturer available as an option. These functions complement but do not replace periodic filter cleaning and servicing. Improved comfort does not remove the need for basic hygiene: filters have to be removed and washed, and the room aired from time to time. Regular upkeep keeps the airflow up and reduces fan noise.

Controls and Wi-Fi

The basic means of operation is the wireless remote control. Thanks to the SMART Wi-Fi function and a Wi-Fi modem, the air conditioner can also be controlled from a tablet or smartphone, both at home and away. The manufacturer presents this as a feature available in this model, and because the module itself can be an extra item, we always confirm the contents of the set with the customer when quoting.

SMART Follow mode uses an additional temperature sensor built into the controllers, so the temperature is regulated where you actually are. The manufacturer marks this function as available optionally, so not every version of the set has to include it. It is similar with some filters and functions, which depend on the configuration. If you want full clarity on which functions come in the set, ask at the quote stage, because the manufacturer treats some elements as optional. That way you avoid disappointment after installation and know from the start what you can use.

Everyday operation also uses a timer, a sleep function, a silent mode for muting the sound signals and a SMART LED display that can be switched off. For someone who dislikes elaborate menus, the remote, a few basic modes and the airflow direction will matter most. The app is a handy extra, but the air conditioner works fully without it. If someone at home dislikes technology, they can use the remote alone and lose nothing.

Design and build

Appearance is the Elis's strongest side. A deep, satin-black casing is paired with a mirror front panel that resembles a sheet of dark glass. The manufacturer calls it a luxury front panel of minimalist form, suited to loft, industrial and glamour interiors. In practice this means a device that is barely visible on a dark wall and forms a clear, graphic accent on a light one. With a dark casing it is worth paying attention to the lighting of the room: on a sunny day the mirror front reflects light, and in the evening it blends into the background. At the audit we show how the unit will look on the chosen wall.

The indoor unit is 778 mm wide, 192 mm deep and 272 mm high, and weighs 7.3 kg. It is one of the smaller wall-mounted air conditioners, so it is easy to fit even above a door or in a narrow recess, provided clearance from the ceiling is kept. A mirror panel easily collects fingerprints and dust, so it is worth wiping it with a soft cloth, without aggressive cleaners.

The exchangers in the indoor and outdoor units are covered with a gold anti-corrosion coating. The manufacturer mentions its self-cleaning properties, but this is protection of the exchanger against corrosion, not a self-cleaning function of the unit. Condensate can be drained on either the left or the right side of the indoor unit, which makes it easier to route the installation in different wall layouts.

Installation and service

Installing the Rotenso Elis includes mounting the indoor and outdoor units and running up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate routes. We make the wall penetration and route the installation neatly. We then evacuate the system and check it for leaks, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit. Finally we check the operating parameters, configure the controls, give a briefing on operation and hand over the warranty documents. The maximum installation length according to the manufacturer is 25 m.

We agree the scope of work at a free assessment. Possible surcharges are discussed before work starts: a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, wall chasing, a condensate pump or work from a lift platform. We quote the installed price after a free assessment, so the customer knows what is in scope before the crew enters the flat. When choosing the location we think about aesthetics, because with a dark unit visible pipes and cables spoil the effect.

In use, the most important things are regular filter cleaning, checking that the condensate drain is clear and an annual service that assesses the tightness of the system and the cleanliness of the exchangers. The outdoor unit has a noise level of 54 dB, so when choosing its location we consider neighbouring windows and balconies as well as access for service. After installation we show you how to remove and wash the filters and how to set the louvres. When the work is done we check that the openings are neatly finished and the route is protected. If you notice worrying noise, a drop in performance or a leak, contact us before the problem grows.

Who this model is for — summary

The Rotenso Elis 3.4 kW is for the customer who chooses an air conditioner with their eyes too. If your interior is in dark colours, loft or industrial in style, or you simply do not want a white block on the wall, a black casing with a mirror front will be a natural choice. The compact dimensions and the 7.3 kg weight make it easier to install in smaller rooms.

In terms of parameters it is a solid model, but not a record-setter: the SEER of 6.1 and SCOP of 4.0 mean classes A++ and A+, and heating is declared down to -20 °C. If your main criterion is the lowest possible power draw or heating in extreme frost, it is better to consider models with a higher energy class from our range. If you care about harmony with the interior, quiet operation from 22 dB and simple phone control, the Elis meets those expectations. Before deciding, work out how many hours a year the unit will actually run and in which modes. The less you use it, the less the difference in energy class matters, and the more the look and the quiet operation count.

The best step is a free assessment: we will check the capacity, the mounting location and the route of the installation, and then present a quote with installation. Contact LeoKlima and we will arrange a date in Warsaw.
