The Rotenso Roni 3.4 kW (R18) is a wall-mounted inverter air conditioner whose biggest asset, according to the manufacturer, is a compact outdoor unit. Such an outdoor unit makes sense where space is tight: on a narrow balcony, in a facade recess or in a spot that is hard for the installation crew to reach. The rated cooling capacity is 3.4 kW and the rated heating capacity is 3.4 kW (3420 W), so the model is meant for a single room of average size. We always choose the size by inspecting the room, not only from the floor area given in the flat listing.
The key figures from the manufacturer's data are SEER 6.1 (class A++) and SCOP 4.0 (class A+). The indoor unit runs at a sound level from 22 to 42 dB and the outdoor unit emits 54 dB. The Roni cools at outdoor temperatures from -15°C to 53°C and heats from -20°C to 30°C. The refrigerant is R32 and the maximum pipe length is 25 m. The indoor unit measures 778 × 192 × 272 mm and weighs 7.3 kg. The cooling capacity range from 1000 to 3770 W lets the compressor work under a light load once the room is already cooled.
The equipment includes automatic 4D louvres, the Smart Wi-Fi function, the 10-stage PureR Stage purification system, Eco mode, and the iClean and iAIR automatic cleaning functions. We quote the installed price after a free assessment. Below we discuss what these parameters mean in use and in installation in a Warsaw apartment, and for whom this model is a sensible choice. For a customer in Warsaw, simple everyday features matter too: a timer, auto-restart memory and a self-diagnosis function.
The Roni is an air conditioner for someone who wants a sensible unit for a room or bedroom and does not want to give up heating in winter. The manufacturer declares a heating range down to -20°C and adds a compact outdoor unit that is easier to fit into a cramped installation spot. In Warsaw blocks of flats from the 1970s and 1980s, the place for the outdoor unit is often the biggest constraint. That is why we describe this model first through the lens of space, and only then through its functions.
The variant described on this page is marked R18 and has a capacity of 3.4 kW. The cooling capacity is 3400 W in a range from 1000 to 3770 W, and the heating capacity is 3420 W in a range from 1000 to 3810 W. This means the compressor can work under a low load once the set temperature has been reached in the room, and raise output only when demand grows.
In energy classes the Roni reaches A++ in cooling and A+ in heating, with SEER 6.1 and SCOP 4.0. We do not quote savings in money, because they depend on the flat and on how the unit is used. During the free assessment we check whether 3.4 kW suits the given room and discuss with the customer where to put both units. This approach avoids buying a unit of the wrong capacity, which on hot days would not keep up with cooling.
The Roni is an inverter unit with a DC SKYr motor. The compressor changes its speed smoothly, so the air conditioner does not work in an on-off cycle but adjusts output to the needs of the room. As a result the room temperature is more stable and the operation of the unit is less bothersome for the household. The refrigerant is R32, which according to the manufacturer limits the impact of cooling and heating appliances on the environment compared with older refrigerants.
The operating range is an important parameter when choosing. Cooling is possible at outdoor temperatures from -15°C to 53°C, and heating from -20°C to 30°C. The manufacturer stresses that inverter technology allows efficient heating of the room even at -20°C. The cooling range up to 53°C is useful in summer on sunlit balconies, where the outdoor unit warms up more than the air in the shade. When planning an installation we consider both extreme scenarios: a hot summer and a freezing January.
For everyday energy saving there is the eMOTO Eco mode, which according to the manufacturer can reduce electricity use by up to 60 percent. The eMOTO turbo mode, in turn, briefly increases compressor and fan output, shortening the time needed to reach the set temperature by up to 20 percent. In heating mode the airflow control system first warms up the refrigeration circuit so as not to blow cold air, and the Smart 8°C function keeps an empty room at 8°C.
The indoor unit runs at a sound level from 22 to 42 dB. The lower value applies to the quietest operation, so in a bedroom it is worth using the eMOTO super quiet mode and the sleep function, in which the temperature and fan speed are modified automatically to provide conditions that favour night-time rest. Switching off the LED display on the panel prevents the light from disturbing you at night. If a small child sleeps in the flat, it is worth setting lower fan speeds from the start and directing the airflow so that it does not fall on the cot.
The wide eMOTO airflow angle spreads the air around the room, and the automatic 4D louvres let you set the direction of the stream from the remote or the wall controller. In practice this means you can direct the cool airflow above the bed or desk, and not straight at yourself. The Smart Follow mode uses an additional temperature sensor in the remote or controller and lets you regulate operation according to the temperature where we sit.
The Roni has the 10-stage PureR Stage purification system, which according to the manufacturer removes most bacteria, viruses, mites and fungi from the surroundings. It includes, among others, the HD iAIR pre-filter and 3-in-1 filters in two variants: catechin with silver ions and vitamin C, or photocatalytic with activated carbon and Cold Nano. The iClean function cools and then heats the exchanger, which is meant to limit bacteria and fungi, and iAIR automatic cleaning dries the interior after operation. The filters should still be cleaned regularly.
Basic operation is from the wireless remote, on which we set the operating mode, the temperature, the fan speed and the louvre position. The timer lets you schedule switching the unit on and off, for example so that the room is cooled before you return from work. The air conditioner also has auto-restart memory, which restores the previous operating mode after a brief power cut.
The manufacturer describes the Smart Wi-Fi function, thanks to which the unit can be controlled from a tablet or smartphone, both at home and away. A Wi-Fi modem is needed for this. Control through an app is therefore possible, and we check the module configuration when you order and when we commission the unit. We do not promise that the module is always in the box, because the manufacturer's description does not say so outright. If someone prefers not to use the app, full operation remains available from the remote, so the lack of a Wi-Fi network in the flat does not limit the basic functions of the unit.
In addition there is a self-diagnosis function, which shows an error code on the display of the unit or on the wired controller, simplifying the conversation with service. Wi-Fi makes the most sense if we use the air conditioner irregularly: we switch it on from the phone an hour before getting home and switch it off if we forgot to do so in the morning. At the first start-up we show the customer the most important settings, including the Smart 8°C function and Eco mode.
The indoor unit measures 778 mm in width, 192 mm in depth and 272 mm in height, and weighs 7.3 kg. The manufacturer describes a classic white panel broken by a gold line, which is meant to fit into the decor of the room. It is a solution for people who prefer a restrained, light look and do not want the air conditioner to dominate the wall. A light colour works especially well in smaller rooms, where a dark body could visually weigh down the wall.
The compact outdoor unit is the most important design argument. According to the manufacturer, despite its small size the unit keeps high performance and works well where space is limited, including places that are difficult to install in. In practice this means more freedom when choosing a spot on a balcony, on a bracket or on a facade. We check the exact outdoor unit dimensions during the assessment, because they depend on the chosen version. When choosing the spot we also consider access to the unit during servicing, because an outdoor unit placed too awkwardly can be costly to look after.
The exchanger in the indoor and outdoor unit is covered with a gold anti-corrosion coating. The gold-plated fins protect the metal against corrosion, which matters for a unit working outdoors. It is a protection of the material, not a self-cleaning function of the appliance, so the filters and the exchanger still need periodic servicing. Condensate can be drained on the left or right side of the indoor unit, which makes it easier to route the hose in a flat.
As part of the installation LeoKlima mounts the indoor and the outdoor unit and runs up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate lines. This includes the passage through the wall and neat routing of the installation. We then evacuate the system and check it for leaks, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit. At the end we check the operating parameters, configure the controls, give a walkthrough of the operation and hand over the warranty documents. We write all these elements into the offer so the customer knows what is in scope.
We agree the scope during a free assessment. Possible extra charges are discussed before the work starts: a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, wall chasing, a condensate pump and work from a lift platform. The manufacturer allows an installation length of up to 25 m, but standard installation covers only a few metres, so longer runs are quoted separately. We quote the installed price after a free assessment. This way there are no surprises on the installation day, and the crew knows in advance which tools and materials it needs.
After start-up, simple things matter in operation: regular cleaning of the filters, checking that the condensate drain is clear, and an annual inspection with a check of the system for leaks and of the cleanliness of the exchangers. In winter, before switching on heating, we check that the outdoor unit is not buried in snow. A regular inspection reduces the risk of a failure during the season and helps keep the declared efficiency of the unit. If an error message appears, the first step is the code from self-diagnosis, which we pass on to service.
The Roni suits someone who has limited space for the outdoor unit and wants an air conditioner with decent efficiency, SEER 6.1 and SCOP 4.0, without paying extra for elaborate add-ons. It is a sensible choice for a bedroom, a study or a living room of average size, especially when a light casing and simple control from the remote, with an app option, matter. It is also a good candidate for people who work from home and want quiet operation during calls.
However, remember this model's own figures. The indoor unit has a sound range from 22 to 42 dB and the outdoor unit 54 dB, so for night operation it is worth taking care over a sensible location of the outdoor unit; when choosing it we take neighbours, windows and balconies nearby into account. The heating range down to -20°C is enough for most Warsaw winters, but in the hardest frosts treat the air conditioner as a supplement to your heating, not the only source of heat.
If you are considering this model, book a free assessment. We will look at the flat, point out the installation place, work out the route and discuss possible extra charges. Only then will we give the installed price, because it depends on the conditions on site. During the visit we will also explain how to clean the filters and when to plan a service visit.
