Cloth Stone is the Versu variant in which the front of the indoor unit is neither a plastic nor a glass slab but a textile panel. The manufacturer says the panel is replaceable and offered in several colours, so the look of the unit can be changed at any time without replacing the whole air conditioner. The description we have from the manufacturer, however, does not state the exact shade of the Stone model, so we do not guess which colour a customer will get. We confirm that when preparing the quote, so you see the panel colour before deciding to buy.

The technical data for the 3.5 kW variant are as follows: nominal capacity 3.5 kW cooling and 3.8 kW heating, SEER 8.5 (class A+++), SCOP 4.6 (class A++), refrigerant R32. Indoor noise runs from 19 dB to 40 dB and the outdoor unit is 53 dB(A). Cooling works from -15°C to 50°C outdoors, and heating down to -22°C with an upper limit of 30°C. That is three degrees less than the version with a mirror front, but for most Warsaw winters it is entirely sufficient, since in a flat the air conditioner mostly runs when it is much warmer outside than -22°C.

This kind of unit suits interiors that feel warm and soft: curtains, upholstered furniture, a rug, wood. The texture then looks like part of the decor rather than technical equipment. We describe it from the viewpoint of a resident choosing a unit for a living room or bedroom, starting with what you can see and finishing with what you cannot: installation, servicing and day-to-day use. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.

Overview and positioning

Versu Cloth Stone holds its place in the range as the model that is matched to the interior. The main difference from other 3.5 kW variants lies in the front panel: it is made of fabric and can be taken off, and a panel in another colour fitted in its place. For someone who repaints the walls or changes the upholstery every few years, that is a practical feature, because the air conditioner does not have to remain a leftover from the previous scheme. When renting out or selling a flat such flexibility also makes sense, as the next occupant may have a different taste.

Operating figures are shared across the Versu family at this capacity: the same output ranges, the same noise, the same set of comfort functions. What differs is the lowest temperature at which the manufacturer declares heating. For Cloth Stone it is -22°C. We treat the colour name with caution: since the manufacturer here describes mainly the kind of panel, not a specific shade, we do not state it from memory and do not promise it will match a given wall.

When choosing this model, it is best to begin with a photo of the room and samples of materials. At the free assessment we can judge whether the textile finish will sit well with the curtains, sofa and floor, and whether the spot above a window or a piece of furniture is sensible for airflow. The air stream should not hit a workstation or a bed directly, and fabric near the outlet must not hinder its free movement.

Cooling and heating technology

The system is built around a compressor with a DC inverter, whose speed changes smoothly with demand. The manufacturer indicates a cooling range from 1.3 kW to 4.3 kW and a heating range from 0.9 kW to 4.4 kW. The fans run on brushless BLDC motors, and the manufacturer describes many speed steps, which lets airflow be matched gently to room conditions and limits noise at low revolutions.

In heating mode the unit operates at outdoor temperatures down to -22°C. The winter package comprises a drain-pan heater and a compressor crankcase heater: the first clears snow and ice from inside the outdoor unit, the second prepares the compressor to run when it is freezing. Rotenso describes these appliances as air-to-air heat pumps working all year round, with increased efficiency in heating, reflected in the SCOP of 4.6 (class A++).

For cooling, what counts is the SEER of 8.5 (class A+++) and an outdoor range from -15°C to 50°C. The manufacturer also describes a turbo mode, which temporarily raises compressor and fan output, and an Eco mode that limits energy use. In standby the unit draws little power. The SMART heating function holds a low temperature in an empty room so that it does not get fully chilled in winter; it is not available in a Multi Split system.

Comfort and air quality

Comfort here depends on two things: how quietly the fan works and where the air goes. In quiet operation the indoor unit drops to 19 dB, which the manufacturer ties to the super-quiet eMOTO mode, and at harder work it reaches 40 dB. In many flats a room feels chilly not because of the overall temperature but because of a draught, so being able to set the louvres precisely really matters. The rotating horizontal louvre sends air high or low, and the cascade airflow lets you aim it from the top or the bottom, depending on whether you care about cooling or about warming the floor.

The textile panel has one more consequence, which should be mentioned honestly: fabric attracts dust more readily than a smooth surface. For that reason we recommend vacuuming the panel now and then with a soft brush and following the manufacturer's instructions when taking it off. We do not claim here any ability of the panel to filter air, because the manufacturer does not mention it; cleaning is the job of the filters and the ionizer. In a household with an allergy sufferer, the fabric front should therefore be treated as decoration, not as an air purifier.

Air passes through an HD iAIR pre-filter, an antibacterial filter and a 3-in-1 filter described by the manufacturer, and the Super Ionizer iAIR works as well. The iClean function chills and then heats the indoor heat exchanger to reduce bacteria and fungi. It still needs ordinary upkeep: filters are cleaned every few weeks, and the exchanger is checked by a technician during the yearly inspection.

Controls and Wi-Fi

The unit is operated in the standard way with a wireless remote, from which you can set the operating mode, fan speed, louvres and timer. The manufacturer also describes a sleep function in which temperature and fan speed change automatically to give good conditions overnight. After a power cut, the auto-restart memory brings back the previous mode, and the louvre memory keeps their last position.

For those who prefer to control things from a smartphone there is the SMART Wi-Fi function. It is described together with a Wi-Fi modem, which lets you manage the unit from a tablet or phone at home and away. As the modem appears in the description as a separate element, we speak of the possibility of app control, and whether the module is in the set we confirm in the quote. The humidity sensor is available through the mobile app.

As an option the manufacturer provides the SAVA wired controller, which offers weekly programming with several periods per day; availability concerns an option, so we confirm it when quoting. SMART Follow mode uses a temperature sensor in the remote or controller, so the unit responds to the temperature next to the user. If beeps and light signals are a nuisance, silent mode can be switched on, and the self-diagnosis function will show an error code, which cuts a call to service down to one sentence. Settings kept in the remote or app are easy to repeat after a technician's visit.

Design and build

The indoor unit is 920 mm wide, 211 mm deep and 321 mm high, and weighs 11.3 kg. The dimensions are identical to other Versu variants, so swapping one model for another at the quoting stage does not require changing the installation plan. The manufacturer fitted it with two-sided condensate drainage, so the drain can be led left or right depending on the layout of the wall.

The heart of the design is the textile, replaceable panel. The manufacturer stresses it can be matched to any room at any time, yet the materials we work from give no name of a specific colour for the Stone version, nor a description of the weave. For that reason we advise asking for a sample or a photograph from the supplier before deciding it should match a particular curtain or sofa. We do not want a customer to buy a shade they have not seen. In practice a panel's tone also shifts with daylight, so it is worth holding the sample up to the lighting the room has in the evening.

Both units use anti-corrosion gold-coated fins. Rotenso describes them as a heat exchanger coating protecting against corrosion; we do not treat it as a self-cleaning function of the air conditioner. Thanks to this build, the outdoor unit has a better chance of lasting in a spot exposed to moisture, such as beside a balcony or on a street-facing facade. The panel inside the flat has no contact with weather, so its durability depends mainly on how dusty it gets and how often it is cleaned.

Installation and service

Installation covers both units, the indoor and the outdoor, with a run of up to a few metres carrying the refrigerant pipes, power cables and the condensate drain. We drill the wall opening, lay the lines tidily, and once they are in place we evacuate the system and test it for tightness. Only then do we top up the refrigerant and start the air conditioner, and at the end we verify its operating parameters, configure the controls, walk you through operation and pass on the warranty paperwork.

The maximum installation length given by the manufacturer is 25 m. When a flat needs a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, wall chasing, a condensate pump or a lift, we tell you about the possible surcharge before work starts. The scope is agreed at a free assessment, and we quote the installed price after a free assessment.

A textile panel needs different care from a smooth casing: keep it dry, do not soak it and avoid harsh agents. Cleaning the filters is the user's task, while a check of the refrigeration circuit, heat exchanger and condensate drain is worth repeating once a year. In winter we check that the outdoor unit is not buried in snow, because the winter package copes well with ice but will not replace clearing snow. Before the summer season it is worth checking the drain again so that water does not run down the wall.

Who this model is for — summary

Cloth Stone is a good choice for people who treat an air conditioner as an element of the decor and want to be able to change its appearance without replacing the hardware. It will work in a living room with fabrics, a bedroom with soft lighting, and flats where white plastic looks too technical. The quiet mode from 19 dB argues for using it in a sleeping room, and the heating range down to -22°C gives a margin on colder transitional days.

It is not the best choice for someone who needs a smooth surface for frequent wiping, has pets that shed hair, or wants a glass front that can be cleaned in one pass. In such cases it is better to compare it with the Mirror variant, which has a mirror front and a heating range down to -25°C, or with a plainer white model.

Before you decide, ask for a free assessment. We will look at the wall, the pipe route and the place for the outdoor unit, and settle which panel colour is available at the time of ordering, and whether a further panel can be sourced after you change the decor.
