The Samsung Cebu S2 in its 3.5 kW size is a set made up of the AR50F12C1AHNEU indoor unit and the AR50F12C1AHXEU outdoor unit. Samsung presents it as a wall-mounted air conditioner that is easy to operate and convenient to clean, and those two things are exactly what stands out in its specification. The Easy Plus filter comes out from the top without opening the cover, the SolarCell remote charges from a solar panel instead of batteries, and Wi-Fi is built in and works with the SmartThings app. It belongs to the segment where a sensible set of functions matters more than the highest efficiency classes.
The operating figures are: cooling 3.5 kW (from 1.05 to 4.0 kW) and heating 3.5 kW (from 0.85 to 5.0 kW). Seasonal cooling efficiency is SEER 7.0 in class A++, and heating is SCOP 4.2 in class A+, stated for the average, that is moderate, heating season. The unit cools at outdoor temperatures from -10 to 46°C and heats from -15 to 24°C. The refrigerant is R32 and the compressor is a BLDC type. The indoor unit's sound pressure ranges from 19 to 38 dB, and the outdoor unit's is 46 dB.
Samsung is also clear about what this model does not have: WindFree cooling, a motion sensor, Freeze Wash, a PM 1.0 filter or a Tri-Care filter. That makes it easy to judge whether the Cebu S2 is enough for your flat. The indoor unit measures 820 x 215 x 299 mm and weighs 9.1 kg, and the maximum pipe run is 15 m. This description relies solely on the data in the manufacturer's specification. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.
The Cebu S2 is aimed at someone who wants an air conditioner they do not have to think about much. Samsung does not build this model around one eye-catching feature but around everyday convenience: a filter you can clean in a minute, a remote with no batteries and an app that lets you control the unit even when you are away. The 3.5 kW variant suits a bedroom, a child's room, a study or a small living room in a typical Warsaw block of flats. For south-facing rooms or top-floor flats we always check the capacity on site, because solar gains can change the requirements considerably.
The specification is honest about what it leaves out, too. The product page explicitly marks the absence of WindFree cooling, a motion sensor, Freeze Wash, a PM 1.0 filter and a Tri-Care filter. There is no point in expecting the Cebu S2 to offer solutions Samsung reserves for other series. If any of these features matters to you, it is better to say so during the survey and choose a different model than to regret it later.
Who does this combination make sense for? A family that wants to cool the flat in summer and take the chill off on cooler days, without complicated controls. A landlord who needs a unit that is simple for successive tenants. And a person who likes to keep an eye on energy use in an app but does not need sensors or special airflow modes. The data we rely on comes from Samsung's Polish product page for the AR50F12C1AHNEU variant.
At the heart of the outdoor unit is a BLDC compressor running on R32 refrigerant. In cooling the nominal output is 3.5 kW with a range from 1.05 to 4.0 kW, and in heating it is also 3.5 kW, with a range from 0.85 to 5.0 kW. A heating maximum above the nominal figure means there is spare output to warm up a cold room quickly, and the low threshold lets the unit hold the temperature in the shoulder months without constantly switching the compressor on and off.
Seasonal efficiency is SEER 7.0, giving class A++ for cooling, and SCOP 4.2 with class A+ for heating. An important caveat: the heating values refer to the season described as average, or moderate, and the product page gives no data for the warmer season. What this means for your bills depends mainly on how many hours the unit runs: in a flat where the air conditioner works mostly in July and August, it is worth estimating this from your own usage, and the SmartThings app helps you check it afterwards.
The cooling range runs from -10 to 46°C outdoors, and heating from -15 to 24°C. For Warsaw this means the unit will cope on typical winter days, but in hard frost its heating output will drop below nominal. We therefore treat the Cebu S2 as heating outside the main heating season and support on cool evenings, not as a replacement for radiators. Automatic changeover lets the unit switch between cooling and heating by itself when the room temperature drifts from the setpoint, which is useful in spring and autumn.
Airflow direction is controlled automatically both up/down and left/right, and the fan has five steps in cooling and four in fan-only mode. In practice this lets cool air spread around the whole room and avoids one side of the room being noticeably colder than the other. The available modes are auto, fast cooling, Good Sleep for the night, Eco, dry, fan-only and quiet. Samsung gives a dehumidifying capacity of 1.4 l/h, handy on humid, muggy days when the temperature is not high but the air feels heavy.
The Easy Plus filter is what sets this model apart in daily use. It sits in the upper part of the unit and can be removed and cleaned without opening the front cover. According to Samsung, a dense mesh catches some kinds of dust, and a special coating holds other contaminants better. Samsung also lists automatic cleaning and a filter cleaning indicator, which reminds you when it is time for a wash. This is not an air purifier: there are no PM 1.0 or Tri-Care filters in this model.
We describe noise using the figures on the specification. The indoor unit's sound pressure ranges from 19 dB at the lowest speed to 38 dB at the highest, and the outdoor unit's is 46 dB, although the page does not say in which mode the latter was measured. Quiet mode and Good Sleep help adapt operation to the night, and the beep and the display can both be switched off.
Wi-Fi is built into this model, and phone control runs through the SmartThings app. According to Samsung, the app lets you switch the air conditioner on and off, choose the operating mode, schedule operation and monitor energy use, even when you are away from home. Energy monitoring is practical for people who want to see what cooling costs them during a hot week and adjust the settings accordingly. At start-up we connect the unit to your home network and add it to your app account.
The SolarCell remote is the second thing that distinguishes the Cebu S2. It has a large OLED display and charges from a solar panel on the back of the casing, so it needs no batteries. Samsung states that a fully charged remote battery lasts up to two years. In practice it is enough to leave the remote somewhere bright from time to time, for example on a windowsill, instead of hunting for spare batteries in a drawer. The large OLED display is also easy to read for older household members who prefer a remote to an app.
Everyday use is made easier by a 24-hour timer, an indoor temperature display, the option to switch off the display and the beep, and automatic restart after a power cut. The AI Auto cooling function selects operating parameters automatically. In a bedroom, a switched-off display, Good Sleep mode and a timer that turns the unit off towards morning work well together.
The AR50F12C1AHNEU indoor unit is white, has a smooth casing and net dimensions of 820 x 215 x 299 mm (width, depth, height), weighing 9.1 kg. A width of 820 mm makes it easier to fit above a window or in a narrow recess, and a weight of 9.1 kg places no unusual demands on the wall, although with plasterboard we always check that there is suitable reinforcement behind it. The 215 mm depth is worth considering when the unit is to hang above a wardrobe door that opens upwards.
Placing the Easy Plus filter in the top of the casing matters when choosing where to mount the unit. There must be enough space above it for the filter to slide out comfortably, so we do not install it right under the ceiling or under a shelf. It is a detail that costs a few minutes at the planning stage and then decides for years whether cleaning the filter really is quick.
The AR50F12C1AHXEU outdoor unit has heat exchanger fins with an anti-corrosion coating. This protects the material against corrosion; it is not a cleaning mechanism. When choosing a spot on a balcony or a facade, we take into account the outdoor unit's 46 dB sound pressure, the distance to windows, service access and condensate drainage in heating mode.
The first step is a free survey. During it we decide where both units will hang, how to route the lines and whether there will be room above the indoor unit to take out the filter. Samsung allows a pipe run of up to 15 m, which is enough in most flats, but where the outdoor unit has to stand far from the room we measure the route particularly carefully.
The standard scope covers mounting the indoor and outdoor units, laying up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate lines, making the wall penetration and routing the installation neatly. We then pull a vacuum and check the system for leaks, charge it with refrigerant and start the air conditioner. We check operating parameters, set up control through the SmartThings app, explain how to use the unit and hand over the warranty documents. Any extra charges are discussed before work starts: a longer line set, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, wall chasing, a condensate pump, work from a lift. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.
Living with the Cebu S2 is simple: the indicator reminds you to clean the filter, and the filter itself comes out from the top. Once a year, though, it is worth booking a service with a leak check, heat exchanger cleaning and a check of the condensate drain, ideally before summer. If the unit heats a lot in autumn and winter, a second check before the heating season also makes sense, because a clear condensate drain is especially important then.
The Samsung Cebu S2 3.5 kW is for people who value easy operation and simple upkeep. Its strongest points are the Easy Plus filter that comes out from the top together with a cleaning indicator, the battery-free SolarCell remote, built-in Wi-Fi with the SmartThings app and energy monitoring, and automatic airflow direction control on both axes. SEER 7.0 (A++) and SCOP 4.2 (A+) for the average season, along with heating from -15°C, are enough for summer cooling and shoulder-season heating.
It is a weaker fit if you are looking for draught-free cooling, a motion sensor, advanced filtration or the highest heating efficiency class. Samsung explicitly rules these out in this model's specification. Keep the 15 m pipe limit in mind as well: if the outdoor unit has to go on the far side of a large flat, we will check during the survey whether the route fits within that limit before we propose this set.
