The Terrel is a Sinclair series that the manufacturer describes as a premium range focused on design. What stands out most is the rounded body and the choice of four colours: white, black, silver and champagne. The 3.5 kW set consists of the SIH-13BIT (indoor) and SOH-13BIT (outdoor) units. Cooling capacity is 3.5 kW and heating capacity 3.8 kW, with modulation from 1.0 to 3.8 kW in cooling and from 0.9 to 4.7 kW in heating. This page describes the white variant shown in the photo. Below we explain what the figures mean in practice and what not to expect from the model. All values come from the manufacturer's data for this variant.

In efficiency the Terrel is a solid middle-ranker: SEER 7.1 gives class A++ for cooling and SCOP 4.1 gives class A+ for heating. These are not record figures, but the manufacturer stresses other aspects of everyday comfort: a hidden display, seven fan speeds, the I FEEL function for more precise temperature control in the user's surroundings, a cold plasma generator and filters with catechin and silver ions. The manufacturer calls Wi-Fi control a matter of course. The choice therefore comes down to what matters more: looks and convenience in daily use, or the lowest possible bill. The manufacturer also highlights two practical solutions, a double condensate outlet and a dry ON/OFF contact, which help during installation in more awkward room layouts.

For someone furnishing an interior in Warsaw, this model is an answer to the question of how to reconcile an air conditioner with the look of a living room. The indoor unit is wide: 889 mm, and it weighs 11.0 kg. It runs between 25 dB and 42 dB, and the outdoor unit is rated at 52 dB. Such a combination suits people who treat the air conditioner as part of the living-room furnishings and want to match it in colour to the rest of the flat. Overview and positioning

In the LeoKlima catalogue the Terrel holds the place of the design-led model. The manufacturer speaks of it as a series meant to be a part of the decor and not only a technical device, and indeed most sentences in its description concern shape, colours and the hidden display. The feature set is rich, yet it is not the functions that set this series apart from others but precisely its looks. If you are buying an air conditioner for a living room where it will be visible all day, that matters more than the difference of one energy class. When ordering we check which colour variant is currently available and do not promise a particular shade in advance.

A nominal capacity of 3.5 kW in cooling and 3.8 kW in heating suits a living room or a large bedroom. SEER 7.1 corresponds to class A++ and SCOP 4.1 to class A+. For comparison, these are not top-shelf values, so if the lowest electricity bill is most important, it is worth setting them against other models with higher coefficients. The Terrel wins when the whole impression counts, not a single number in a table. In conversation with customers we usually start by asking where the unit will hang, because that decides the colour and whether the rounded body will fit in with the furniture.

It is also worth knowing that the indoor unit's dimensions, 889 × 294 × 212 mm, are large for a 3.5 kW unit, so when planning the spot we check that enough clearance remains above furniture and doors. We settle the exact choice at the free assessment, and at the same time check where to route the condensate and where the outdoor unit will fit.

Cooling and heating technology

The Terrel is a heat-pump inverter, so the same set cools in summer and tops up the heating in the cooler months. Cooling capacity lies between 1.0 kW and 3.8 kW, with a nominal 3.5 kW, and heating capacity between 0.9 kW and 4.7 kW, with a nominal 3.8 kW. Wide modulation in heating, up to 4.7 kW, means that on cold days the unit has headroom above the nominal value, and in the shoulder months it can run quietly and economically. The low end of the range, 1.0 kW in cooling and 0.9 kW in heating, means the compressor can work calmly when demand is small, without frequent switching on and off.

The operating range in cooling is from -15°C to 50°C outdoors. In heating the manufacturer gives an upper limit of 30°C, and the lower value is not given in our data, so we do not state it. Winter protection comes from two heaters: a compressor crankcase heater and a heater in the base of the outdoor unit. There is also an 8 °C heating function, that is a mode for maintaining a low temperature in an empty flat, which protects the interior from chilling. Remember that in frost heating output falls, so we treat the air conditioner as economical supplementary heating, not as the only heat source in an uninsulated building.

The refrigerant is R32. The maximum installation length is 15 m, which in most flats is enough with room to spare, but with longer routes this has to be taken into account at the quoting stage. We run the pipes between the units so that the route is as short as possible, which improves appearance and helps keep within the 15 m limit. Sinclair also fitted the unit with a dry ON/OFF contact, which can be used for switching on and off from an external system; in a typical flat it is usually not needed.

Comfort and air quality

The indoor unit works between 25 dB and 42 dB, and the outdoor unit is rated at 52 dB. The second value matters if the outdoor unit hangs near a neighbour's window. The fan has seven speeds, so the airflow can be matched fairly precisely. The louvres swing vertically and horizontally, and the manufacturer notes that the automatic side-to-side movement is meant to spread the air evenly. The condensate outlet can additionally be led out to either side, so installation by a corner wall is simpler.

The I FEEL function, according to the manufacturer, serves more precise temperature control in the user's surroundings; we show its details on the remote when handing the unit over. Two standard filters, with catechin and with silver ions, and a cold plasma generator, that is an ioniser, serve air cleanliness. The manufacturer says it is meant to keep the air clean and fresh. To be fair, the manufacturer does not describe in detail how each of these elements works, so we do not attribute to them parameters that are not in the data.

Moderation is needed in judging such extras, though. Filters and ionisation help, but they do not replace airing or washing the filters. In the season of heavy use it is worth rinsing them every few weeks and once a year ordering a check of the inside of the unit. Clean filters are the best investment in air quality in a flat, and washing them takes a few minutes.

Controls and Wi-Fi

In the manufacturer's description Wi-Fi is a standard element: it lets you control the air conditioner from anywhere. A WiFi module and a YAC1FB9 remote with Wi-Fi support are listed. In the materials we hold, the manufacturer gives neither an app name nor voice control, so we do not promise such functions; if this matters to you, we will check with the distributor before the order. We also configure the app together with the customer, so that from the first day it is clear what to set and where.

The remote lets you choose the operating mode, seven fan speeds and louvre movement, and switch on the I FEEL function. The hidden display means that no lights or digits shine on the front of the unit at night, which matters greatly in a bedroom. For people sensitive to light it is one of the more important features of this model. Added to that is the dry ON/OFF contact, useful in unusual installations, provided someone needs such integration.

During commissioning we connect the unit to the home network, set the preferred parameters and show how the remote works. This way from the first day you know how to control the airflow and how to switch on the 8 °C maintenance heating before you leave for longer. If you change the router, you only need to pair the unit again, and we gladly help after installation too.

Design and build

This is the series' strongest side. The casing has rounded, soft shapes, and the manufacturer offers four colours: white, black, silver and champagne. The variant we describe is white, and the others are available as separate indoor unit designations. The rounded line looks good in modern interiors, and the hidden display adds the impression of a clean front. When choosing a colour, remember that the shade of black or silver looks different in daylight than in photographs. Surfaces without sharp edges are easy to wipe with a damp cloth.

The indoor unit is 889 mm wide, 294 mm high and 212 mm deep, and weighs 11.0 kg. That is a lot for a 3.5 kW unit, so we fix the bracket to a solid substrate and check the load-bearing capacity of the wall. With such a width it is worth allowing an adequate amount of space at the sides.

The outdoor unit is rated at 52 dB and needs space on the facade or balcony. We choose it with service access and distance from windows in mind. It is worth thinking about this before purchase, because in some housing communities installation on the facade needs the manager's consent. If the outdoor unit is to be visible from the street, we agree the installation spot with the community's rules.

Installation and service

Installation by LeoKlima consists of hanging the indoor unit, setting up the outdoor unit and running up to several metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate route. We make the wall penetration and run the installation so that it looks neat, which matters especially with a design-led model. Then we pull a vacuum, check the tightness of the system, charge it with refrigerant and start the air conditioner. We do everything in one visit and clean the work area afterwards.

After start-up we check the operating parameters, configure the controls and the Wi-Fi connection, brief you on operation and hand over the warranty documents. The maximum installation length for this model is 15 m, so with a longer route we mention it before work begins. We usually include up to several metres of route in the standard scope, and discuss longer sections separately.

Surcharges, which we mention in advance, may concern a longer route, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, wall chasing, a condensate pump and work from a lift platform. We settle the scope at the free assessment. Further maintenance means washing the filters and an annual service. Before the summer season it is worth booking a short check: washing the filters, inspecting the condensate drain and confirming that the unit starts without errors.

Who this model is for — summary

We recommend the Sinclair Terrel 3.5 kW to people for whom the air conditioner is to be a visible part of the interior and who prefer to choose a colour to go with the furniture rather than settle for default white. It will do well in a living room, in a bedroom where the hidden display and 25 dB count, and in a flat where Wi-Fi control matters. In a living room it also matters that the shape of the body does not dominate the interior but fits into its lines.

It fits less well someone looking for the lowest running costs: SEER 7.1 and SCOP 4.1 are decent but lower than in class A+++ models. Remember also the size, since a width of 889 mm is quite a lot, and the limit of 15 m on installation length. If the highest energy class matters more, it is better to look at other models in the catalogue.
