The Whirlpool SPICR312W is a 12000 BTU split air conditioner that cools in summer and heats in the shoulder seasons. The manufacturer recommends it for rooms of 12–25 m². This is a model where we have to be honest about what we do not know. Whirlpool's website and the energy label give only part of the picture: a cooling design load of 3.4 kW, SEER 6.1 in the A++ class, SCOP 4.0, noise levels and operating temperature ranges. Missing are the heating capacity, the minimum capacity, the heating energy class, dimensions in a form we could confirm and the maximum line length.
So this description is lighter on numbers and heavier on practice. We know the unit cools at outdoor temperatures from -15 to 43°C and heats from -10 to 24°C. According to the manufacturer, the indoor unit ranges from 19 dB in quiet mode to 40 dB at high fan speed, and the outdoor unit is rated at 52 dB. The refrigerant is R32. On that basis, the SPICR can be treated as an air conditioner for cooling one room and topping up heat in spring and autumn, not as a replacement for winter heating. That division of roles works well in flats with district heating, where radiators run all winter anyway and the air conditioner is there mainly to deal with summer heat.
The equipment is modest but specific: an Eco Energy mode with reduced output, a quiet mode, a 6th Sense sensor that picks the operating mode to suit conditions, a Jet function, the Around U temperature sensor in the remote, dehumidifying, a carbon filter and a 7-segment display. The unit is operated by remote. The manufacturer's description of this version does not mention Wi-Fi or an app, so we do not promise phone control. We quote the installed price after a free assessment.
SPICR is Whirlpool's basic series of wall-mounted air conditioners. In our catalogue we aim it at people who simply want to cool a bedroom or a child's room during a hot summer and do not need an app, elaborate automation or advanced filtration. The SPICR312W is an indoor and outdoor unit sold together as a set. Whirlpool does not present this series on its Polish website, so we rely on the manufacturer's Czech website and the energy label.
The key figure for this model is 3.4 kW, the cooling design load from the label. The manufacturer gives no conventional nominal capacity or compressor operating range, so we do not describe how smoothly the unit slows down at low load. We also do not write about inverter technology, because the page for this version does not mention it. Instead of guesswork we stick to what is on the label: SEER 6.1 with the A++ class for cooling and SCOP 4.0 for heating in the average climate zone.
The 12–25 m² recommendation is worth reading flexibly. A south-facing room on the top floor heats up far more than a north-facing room in the middle of the building, even with the same floor area. During a free assessment we look at sun exposure, windows and how the room is used. If the result points to a need for more capacity headroom, we say so before you order, not after the first heatwave. We also ask who will use the room and at what times, because a bedroom used at night has different needs from a home office used during the day.
In cooling, the SPICR operates at outdoor temperatures from -15 to 43°C. The upper limit covers the hottest days of a Warsaw summer with room to spare, and the lower limit matters in rooms that need cooling outside the season too, such as a small server room or a room full of equipment. SEER 6.1 is the value at which the A++ class begins on the EU scale. It is not a market-leading result, but for a room used mainly in July and August the difference in the annual electricity bill is usually not decisive.
Heating works at outdoor temperatures from -10 to 24°C. SCOP 4.0 means that, on average over a heating season, the unit delivers about four units of heat for every unit of electricity used. However, the manufacturer gives neither a heating capacity nor a heating energy class, so we do not promise how much heat the unit will deliver on a cold day. In practice, the SPICR suits topping up a room in October or March, when the radiators are not on yet or have already gone off, rather than heating a flat during a frost.
According to the manufacturer, the Jet function lowers the temperature by 5 degrees in 10 minutes. Eco Energy mode works the other way: it limits output compared with standard mode, which is handy when low power draw matters more to you than a quick result. Dehumidifying mode helps on humid days when the temperature is not high but the room feels stuffy. All of these modes are switched with the remote, so using them needs no extra setup. Day to day, most people settle on two or three settings and keep coming back to them.
Settings are chosen by 6th Sense technology. In this model it is based on a temperature sensor and automatically picks the operating mode best suited to conditions in the room. In addition, Around U uses a sensor in the remote, so the unit can go by the temperature where you actually are. That is why the remote is best kept by the sofa or bed rather than on a sunny windowsill, where the sensor would read too high.
The manufacturer gives noise as sound pressure: from 19 dB in quiet mode to 40 dB at high fan speed for the indoor unit, and 52 dB for the outdoor unit. Quiet mode lets you set a low noise level for the night. We do not attach extra judgements to these figures, because how sound is perceived depends on the room, the distance from the bed and the chosen fan speed.
Filtration relies on a carbon filter. The manufacturer says it absorbs pollutants such as pollen, dust, pet hair and odours, tobacco smoke, mould and fungi. No filter works without cleaning and replacement, though, and a carbon filter gradually loses its ability to absorb odours. At commissioning we show you how to remove it and suggest how often to check it, especially in a home with pets or a smoker. In such homes the filter gets dirty faster, and its condition is worth checking visually every few weeks, not only at the annual service.
The SPICR312W is operated with a remote control which, according to the manufacturer, activates all the unit's functions. The indoor unit has a 7-segment display showing basic operating information. It is a simple layout that is easy to understand, including for people who do not want to install an app, such as older family members or tenants.
The manufacturer's description of this version does not list Wi-Fi, an app or voice control. So we do not claim the air conditioner can be switched on from a phone. If remote control matters to you, tell us at the quote stage: we will then compare this model with other units in our catalogue whose connectivity the manufacturer describes explicitly.
Having no app has its upsides as well. There is no network setup, no user accounts and no dependence on the home router. At commissioning we set up the operating modes with you, demonstrate the Jet, Eco Energy and quiet modes, and explain how the sensor in the remote works. After a few days of use, operating it becomes second nature. It is worth keeping the remote in the same place, because its position determines the Around U reading and how the unit judges the room temperature.
The SPICR indoor unit is white and has the classic shape of a wall-mounted split. It goes well with light walls and does not draw attention in a typical flat. The manufacturer does not describe any other colour options for this version, so we assume a standard white that is easy to match with white skirting, door frames and ceilings. The 7-segment display on the casing shows operating information; if any light source bothers you in the bedroom, bear that in mind when choosing the mounting spot.
We do not give the dimensions or weight of the indoor unit on this page. The manufacturer publishes them in a form we cannot clearly assign to the indoor unit and to a specific order of dimensions, and we do not want to repeat uncertain data. Before installation we measure the space on the wall and check the dimensions on the unit or in the manual supplied with the set. This matters especially when mounting above a window, in a recess or above a wardrobe, where every centimetre counts.
According to the manufacturer, the outdoor unit has a sound pressure of 52 dB. When choosing a place for it on a balcony or façade, we consider the neighbours' windows, access for cleaning and how condensate will be drained. In Warsaw apartment buildings the location often has to be agreed with the housing association or cooperative too. We help prepare a description of the planned installation if the building manager asks for one.
As part of the installation we fit the indoor and outdoor units, run up to a few metres of refrigerant, electrical and condensate lines, make the wall penetration and route the installation neatly. We then pull a vacuum and leak-test the system, charge it with refrigerant and start the unit. Finally, we check operating parameters, configure the remote, walk you through operation and hand over the warranty documents.
The manufacturer does not give a maximum line length for this set, so we check it in the installation manual before proposing a location for the outdoor unit. Any extra charges are discussed before work begins: a longer line, drilling through concrete or reinforced concrete, wall chasing, a condensate pump or work from a lift platform. We agree the scope during a free assessment, and we quote the installed price after a free assessment.
After installation, much depends on the user. The carbon filter and the mesh filter need regular cleaning, and more frequent checks during heavy use. Once a year it is worth booking a service with heat exchanger cleaning and a condensate drain check. A well-kept air conditioner runs more quietly, cools more effectively and is less likely to cause surprises in the first hot week. The service is best booked in spring, before the heat arrives and service waiting times grow.
The Whirlpool SPICR 3.4 kW is for someone looking for a simple air conditioner for one room of 12–25 m² who wants to operate it by remote. It has SEER 6.1 in the A++ class, SCOP 4.0, heating at outdoor temperatures from -10°C, a carbon filter, Eco Energy mode, quiet mode, the Jet function and the Around U sensor in the remote. It is a sensible choice for a bedroom, a child's room or a home office, where the air conditioning simply has to work.
It is less suited to people who want phone control, full information on heating capacity or a high efficiency class. The manufacturer's data is sparse here, and that has to be accepted. If precise parameters, Wi-Fi connectivity or stronger winter heating matter to you, we will help you pick another model from the catalogue. We will make the comparison on specific figures from manufacturers' sheets, not on general slogans, so it is clear what you are paying extra for.

Questions
The manufacturer gives a heating range at outdoor temperatures from -10 to 24°C and SCOP 4.0, but does not publish a heating capacity. We treat it as top-up heating in the shoulder seasons, not as heating for frosty weather.
The indoor unit ranges from 19 dB in quiet mode to 40 dB at high fan speed, and the outdoor unit is rated at 52 dB.
The manufacturer's description of this version does not mention Wi-Fi or an app. The unit is operated with a remote that activates all of its functions.
We do not list them, because the manufacturer's data does not let us confirm them unambiguously. Before installation we measure the space and check the dimensions in the set's manual.
